This collection consists of copies of newspaper clippings related to the life and death of William Spiller Rosenheim. Clippings are related to his practice as a dentist, his marriage, and his sudden death, including tributes form colleagues.

Also included in the collection are transcriptions from his journal of 1899 and 1900 when he was living in Wytheville, Virginia. In these brief snippets, he provides detailed descriptions of himself, including various measurements, as well as provides accounts of spending and what he did. This collection consists of eleven pages copied from the Burlington Presbyterian Church record book containing the “Record of the Establishment Proceedings of the Presbyterian Church of Burlington, Lawrence County, Ohio.” The text includes a list of members, minutes and notes, and a list of baptisms between 1826 and 1828. It also includes copies of a more modern photograph of the church added later and a copy of a typed page about the Kanawha Presbytery, First Presbyterian Church in Huntington, West Virginia. Due to the fact that all pages are copies, legibility can vary.

This collection contains materials compiled by Jeannette Pemberton in her life of collecting sheet music, ephemera, and books. The collection contains manuscript and printed sheet music ranging in date from the 1850s to the 1940s as well as fourteen books on a range of topics, mostly English grammar, from the eighteenth through twentieth centuries. Also included are cassette and VHS tapes of interviews between Susan Pavlovic and Jeanette Pemberton as well as ephemera such as event invitations, concert programs, souvenir movie programs. Some books and sheet music have names of individuals from the Adams family as well as other names.

In 1963, the shock waves of the sit-in movement and the growing black unrest throughout the country reached Huntington. This growing discontent with the status quo of segregation and racial discrimination and the impulse from the sit-in movement for direct, non-violent protest combined to mobilize several students at Marshall University who formed the Civic Interest Progressives (CIP), a biracial civil rights group.

This collection includes physician’s notebooks, photographs, and newspaper clippings related to the Hallanan family. The bulk of the collection is four volumes related to Thomas B. Hallanan’s practice as a physician, including a birth records book for the years 1920 and 1921 for births near Barboursville and McComas and three physician’s notebooks tracking accounts with patients and notes about visits. The four photographs in the collection are unidentified. Newspaper clippings relate to the social and political lives of Walter S. Hallanan, Imogene Hallanan, Thomas Hallanan, and Betty Hallanan.

The Nancy Murray Mann papers consist of correspondences, speeches in various paper formats, newspaper clippings, government publications, photographs, copies of Mann’s passport, land deeds, and research notes from Ben Riley, a Marshall University graduate student from 1983-1985. The focus of the collection primarily covers Mann’s political and social activities, particularly her political involvement during the 1928 presidential campaign for Herbert Hoover and her subsequent work during his administration. Papers consist primarily of diaries, newspaper clippings, correspondence, genealogies and photographs of five families: the Glanville-Carter families of St. Louis, Mo.; the Whittakers of Preble County, Ohio; Dorothy Whittaker Atkins of Huntington, West Virginia.; and the Heacocks of Bucks County, Penna.

A significant part of the collection are the diaries of Annie Heacock, a teacher at the Penn School for freed slaves in Beaufort, South Carolina, 1864-1869. Other diaries include the Civil War diary of John Whittaker, a surgeon in the 81st Ohio Volunteer Infantry.
