An Analysis Of The Concept Of Divine Right Of Kings In The Political Works Of James I, Kenneth Francis Cox Jan 1977

An Analysis Of The Concept Of Divine Right Of Kings In The Political Works Of James I, Kenneth Francis Cox

Dissertations and Theses @ UNI

This thesis, An Analysis of the Concept of the Divine Right of Kings in the Political Works of James I, is a study of the theory of the divine right of kings as formulated by James Stuart (1566-1625). As King James VI of Scotland, and later as King James I of England, he was both a practitioner of kingship and a political theoretician. The thesis evaluates his theory of divine right in the context of western political thought. James succeeded to the Scottish throne in 1567 at the age of thirteen months and remained under the control of a series …

Joseph Smith Iii: Moderate Mormon, Robert Duane Hutchins Jan 1977

Joseph Smith Iii: Moderate Mormon, Robert Duane Hutchins

Theses and Dissertations

Throughout the history of the Mormon movement, certain members or groups of members, have exercised free agency in the form of dissent against the direction which the prophet of that church chose to lead his movement. The form of this dissent varied but the theme was usually quite consistant: a demand for moderation. For many of these dissenters the extremes of Mormon doctrine seemed to take them out of touch with prevailing American values.

Joseph Smith III, a son of the Mormon founder, proved to be one of these moderates. He ultimately rejected all of his father's more radical theology …

Four Views Of The Nature And Role Of Women In Sixteenth Century Protestantism, Lutheranism, Calvinism, Anabaptism, And English Puritanism, Marilyn Fagal Thomsen Jun 1976

Four Views Of The Nature And Role Of Women In Sixteenth Century Protestantism, Lutheranism, Calvinism, Anabaptism, And English Puritanism, Marilyn Fagal Thomsen

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

Never in its fifteen-hundred year history had the Roman Catholic Church been so shaken as when, in the sixteenth century, a mere handful of men advanced the Scriptural doctrines that were to result in the rise of Protestantism. The sole authority of the Bible, the priesthood of all believers, and righteousness by faith alone rapidly took hold in a large part of Europe, especially in Germany, Switzerland, the Lowlands, and England, where the Lutherans, Calvinists, Anabaptists, and Puritans came to the fore.

Because life in the sixteenth century was so closely tied up with the church, such a revolution was …

Formal Reporting Systems Of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints, 1830-1975, Dennis H. Smith Jan 1976

Formal Reporting Systems Of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints, 1830-1975, Dennis H. Smith

Theses and Dissertations

Since its organization, the Church has kept records of its members and their Church activity. The foremost means of gathering this data has been printed report forms. This thesis traces the history of formal reports used by the Church and emphasizes information on membership and vital data as well as activity in Priesthood and auxiliary organizations. Financial reports of organizations and individual persons, as well as personalized confidential reports and minutes of meetings were not used. The thesis analyzes the type of information called for rather than the statistical figures themselves.
