Examining Enrolment Patterns In French Electives At The University Of Botswana: Implications For Policy And Curriculum Development, Kagiso Jacob Sello

International Journal of Transformative Teaching and Learning in Higher Education

This study examines enrolment trends in French electives at University of Botswana (UB) to assess cross-disciplinary relevance, sustained student engagement, and implications for curriculum development and institutional internationalisation. Using a descriptive-analytical design, the study analysed institutional enrolment data from six consecutive semesters. Data were disaggregated by faculty and analysed using SPSS, guided by Student-Centred Curriculum theory and Interdisciplinary Learning principles. A total of 1,200 enrolments were recorded. The Faculty of Business accounted for the highest participation (48.6%), followed by Humanities (20.8%) and Social Sciences (14.9%). It gives an in-depth view on the complex yet vibrant multilingualism in Cameroon with over 240 ethnic groups and many languages. The economically disadvantaged parts of Cameroon are the Anglophone regions such as the North-West with poverty rates at 57% and the South-West at 21% respectively for the year 2019. The subjection of black citizens in France and their invisibility in the (post)colonial space has been marked by segregation in peripheral urban zones, with a hardening of policing methods and controls based on racial appearanc. I argue that monumental representation in public space is not neutral but participates in the promotion of a specific ideology. I show thé ellipses in French patrimonial monumental glorification, including the appropriation of the memory of revolutionary heroes such as Louis Delgrès and Toussaint Louverture, concomitant with the occultation of many other black figures. He meets a couple of strangers who help him accept and understand his nature and heal from his inner suffering with their love. They form a bond that lasts beyond a lifetime.

Is it possible to translate nonsense? If yes, then how?

Lewis Carroll’s “Jabberwocky” is a nonsense poem in which many of the words are invented out of the author’s imagination. As a result, readers depend on Carroll to explain the meanings of such words. The first stanza of “Jabberwocky,” chosen since it contains the largest number of nonsense words in the poem, was analyzed and compared to the first stanza of two French translations (“Le Jaseroque” by Frank L. Because Huguenots and Catholics identified with and were widely identifiable by their respective musical styles, cultural divisions between each confession were emphasized by differences in music. This essay details the implementation and eventual failure of the Arabization policies intended to reinstate and reform Arabophone and Islamic culture in Algeria after independence. I lay out the actions taken by the ruling party (the FLN) against the three main languages spoken in Algeria - Algerian Arabic, French, and Berber - through various laws and even in the language of the Algerian constitution. Ultimately, I conclude that the attempted repression of these languages is an injustice against the Algerian people and should desist for the good of the country.

This Independent Study examined how cross-language code-switching is processed and perceived. The following experiment compared how long English-French bilinguals, English monolinguals, and English-speaking French-language-learners took to detect instances of French/English code-switching in a semantically-rich narrative. Bilinguals displayed shorter change-detection response latencies than language learners and monolinguals, but the latter two groups did not significantly differ. These results provide insight into how the observed cognitive differences between bilinguals and monolinguals may develop, and offer support for the multi-language lexical processing theory of language interference. This paper discusses a comparative analysis of order and disorder with respect to captivity in the works of French playwright Jean Racine. It is argued that a sense of physical captivity enables the characters to better separate the parts of their psyche and therefore, display a greater sense of order. However, when the characters are subject to metaphysical captivity, the ID takes over the mind and life becomes disordered. The role of space, language, and religion is also examined at length.
