Comment Lire Un Texte Francophone?

This study is structed around three components. It begins with a brief reflection on the paradox of the existence in university education of two literary institutions – French literature and Francophone literatures – whose works are nevertheless written in the same language (French). Then the article proposes a transcultural and transnational approach to overcome such dichotomy – France and French-speaking peripheries – by a methodology based on the principle of unity in the diversity of the elements of the texts from three aspects: literary genre, language/speech, and intertextuality. Finally, this reflection is based on the study of the novel Traversée …

Recently, discussions started in France to adapt language and cultural politics in a way that francophonie and francophilie could be used as economic resources for the country's sustainable development and as instruments of globalization. At the same time, there are plans to replace the most important political actor of the francophonie, the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie, with a different institution. In such a context, this paper will examine how the phenomenon of the francophonie developed over the last seven decades and what role language and culture played in the construction of geopolitical transnational spaces and influences.

Why have I chosen to write in French? My personal engagement in front of French language, my profession of teacher and researcher in French linguistics, my quality as a writer and the years I worked as director of French at the International Organization of Francophonie have largely contributed to increase my link with this tongue. We say, the language belongs to his speakers and particularly to the people who use it as the place of expression of art and original thought.

Behind the existence of a social malaise in the suburbs and of numerous stereotypes, a linguistic innovation characteristic of young people has developed. Most of these young people, who consider themselves excluded from society, have created their own social and linguistic space. They have appropriated the French language and transformed it after introducing their own identity marks. The resulting language turns out to be a linguistic refuge for identity, which leads to the finding of a subjective stability.

Créativité Et Lecture En Langue Seconde : Propositions Pour La Lecture Des Textes Des Journaux Francophones Du Cameroun, Louis Martin Onguéné Essono

Nowadays, it is common to say that the French press in Africa greatly contributes to the lower level of French. If true, this assertion hides a much deeper problem that concerns the act of writing and the act of reading in a non-native language. The performance of newspaper, radio or television journalists show that these writers share the same competence and face the same difficulties as the entire French-speaking population who is compelled to transmit ideas and information in a second language they do not master, or just a bit. This paper aims at understanding the reasons why non-African readers …

No language is spoken absolutely like it appears in the works of great writers. In this way the second language is the best accessory of the writer in transit, creator of myths and worlds. There may be some filiation speech, which we only realize in precise and often extreme situations. It is futile to judge the French language with its difficulties, as it is futile to judge life.

Louis-Ferdinand Céline, Ahmadou Kourouma, Emmanuel Dongala and Ken Saro-Wiwa made speeches of street, stigmatized like a “language with hooligan” (Quefellec, 2006), a model, at least an agent of the aesthetics of the language of writing of their romantic fictions on the wars. The occurrence of “French of street” whose vulgarity and indocility narratively build the “mythèmes” violence, hatred and horror, reveals the transgression of the linguistic standard, without deteriorating the significant intentionality of works.

Quelques Remarques Sur Les Belgicismes Métalinguistiques, Jean-Nicolas De Surmont

Of all Belgicisms, only a few have metalinguistic connotation and they have to be considered of special interest in this respect, even if the literature on French in Belgium has not addressed this issue specifically. This essay proposes some observations on these few important words, supported by recent lexicographical descriptions and data obtained through research undertaken in collaboration with Michel Francard of the Université catholique de Louvain (Belgium).

Werewere Liking Et La Poétique Du Jeu Pour Libérer L'Imaginaire Postcolonial Africain, Kasereka Kavwahirehi Jun 2004

Werewere Liking Et La Poétique Du Jeu Pour Libérer L'Imaginaire Postcolonial Africain, Kasereka Kavwahirehi

This essay addresses the issue of poetics and political stakes in Werewere Liking's novel, Elle sera de jaspe et de corail. While this novel has been presented as illustrative of the Negro-African aesthetics rooted in orality, the present article argues that Liking's poetics of hybridity is a postcolonial strategy whose aim is the liberation of African imagination and creativity. The essay ends by suggesting some similarities between Liking's project and that of the Congolese philosopher, especially in his philosophical essay, L'Afrique va-t-elle mourir? Bouscu/er l'imaginaire africain. Through their works, Ka Mana and Werewere Liking are examining the conditions for a …

The literary work can develop an internal identity as a particular mark. Several African writers incorporate into their novels indications of culture that derive from verbal arts. This method gives to the writing a particular aesthetic in between two cultures, creating in the writing an individuality of certain writers such as Ahmadou Kourouma. For him the question is not only to distort the French language to express his Malinke identity, but also to develop a method of incipit that belongs to verbal art.

Jeux De Miroirs : Kourouma L'Interprete?, Justin K. Bisanswa Dec 2002

Jeux De Miroirs : Kourouma L'Interprete?, Justin K. Bisanswa

Critics have often tended to show how Ahmadou Kourouma has expressed the disillusionment of the African "suns of the independences," ''tropicalized" the French language by bending its syntax to fit that of Malinke, and produced novels for "occidental importation" on the basis of oral texts. From a standpoint of sociopragmatics, in contradistinction, I would like to detail the internal specificity of Kourouma's fictional text by its means of production by analyzing it with respect to its cycle of production in terms of strategies, the writer's itinerary, its placement at the center of the literary field, etc. In addition, I will …

It becomes clear that Ahmadou Kourouma's literary work is marked by the predominance of authentically African techniques of expression (semantax). With this in mind, the present study tries to analyse its linguistic manifestations as techniques of aesthetic creativity and of the enrichment of the French language through the writing of novels. This is why we have serialized and described the expressive neologies in the corpus of our study while pointing out their stylistic effects: the Negro-African imagery. Still in the same perspective the strategies identified and analyzed help to illustrate a narrative polyphony resulting from highly oralized contexts with the …

Three women narrate their lives in French, the colonist's language, instead of in Arabic, their mother tongue. They pay homage to their families in order to rid themselves of guilty and revengeful feelings. In Les saisons de passage and Le bonheur a la queue glissante, Andree Chedid and Abla Farhoud express their love for an absent mother, who represents both the rebellious and submissive arabic woman. In La prisonniere, Malika Oufkir denounces the king's injustice for having condemned Oufkir's family for life and General Oufkir to death because he attempted a military putch against Hassan II. These three stories …
