Cette communication propose d’interroger le rôle de la littérature francophone en Algérie dans le contexte politique, social et mémoriel du XXIᵉ siècle, à travers l’analyse d’œuvres contemporaines de Hind Soyer, Kamel Daoud, Kaouther Adimi et Samir Toumi. À rebours des discours annonçant l’obsolescence des études littéraires, ces textes montrent que la littérature demeure un espace privilégié de réflexion critique, de résistance symbolique et de mise en récit des tensions qui traversent la société algérienne contemporaine.

Tierno Monénembo’s Saharienne Indigo tells the life story of Véronique, a woman from Guinea with a past of violence and loss, told through her interactions with the annoying and persistent Frenchwoman madame Corre. Despite these two women’s opposing affiliations with a colonized country and the one that colonized them, the two develop a close friendship throughout the book. Theirs is a relationship that defies the claims laid out in Aimé Césaire's Discours sur le colonialisme that between the colonizer and the colonized, there is only space for negative sentiments and violent actions- never sympathy. Suite à la période coloniale, la poésie en Afrique francophone est apparue non seulement comme une expression artistique, mais aussi comme un outil puissant pour redécouvrir l'identité, la langue et l'histoire. In a time of widespread cynicism and disillusionment with the political and economic status quo in France, how can literature give a voice to those discontents while inspiring hope? My contribution will explore Virginie Despentes’ use of slang from 1990s French alternative music subcultures in her narrative depictions of contemporary economic precarity and social alienation in the Vernon Subutex series (2015-17). I will discuss how Despentes uses French slang to establish a distance between economically marginalized characters and more affluent Parisians, highlighting how the former draw on vocabulary from Anglophone indie rock and hip-hop subcultures as an expression of a …

I would like to discuss how literature can serve as an antidote to self-isolation and how it functions as a means to create relationships between humans, thereby providing meaning for life itself. To address this topic, one could recall Judith Butler’s reinterpretation of Adriana Cavarero’s theory of inclination (2021: 46-62). In the philosophical field of ontology, inclination works as an illustration of two different ways of existing: inclined and vertical. Both positionalities correspond to two different ontologies, namely one of caring and one of self-sufficiency. Adultery and Fidelity in the Lais of Marie de France

Using both literary and historical analysis, I will examine contrasting depictions of adultery and fidelity within the lais written by 12th-century poet Marie de France. A lai is a type of narrative poem, ranging in length from 118 to 1184 lines. Many of Marie de France’s lais follow the literary trope known as courtly love; however, the reader is encouraged to sympathize with different characters depending on the lai. In the French Enlightenment writer the Marquis de Sade’s best-known novel, Justine, issues surrounding God, nature, and humankind pose significant problems for the protagonist of the story. Sade’s materialist philosophical work affirms his belief that nature is the most influential factor in the lives of humans and that God does not exist. Sade states that violence, immorality, and vice derive from nature and exist as the basic instincts of man. He argues that these temptations must be praised rather than forbidden. Even today, Camus’s essays, novels, plays, and short stories remain relevant and compelling. More recent adaptations of his work incorporate such important themes as the meaning of life and death, French colonialism and practices, and basic human rights. Music is used every day as a way of expression. Dany Laferrière, a Haitian born author, uses music in his works to give the reader an idea of racial stereotypes of the black man and white women. The two books that will be the focus of this paper are Comment faire l’amour avec un Nègre sans se fatiguer (How to Make Love to a Black Man Without Getting Tired) and Vers le Sud (Heading South), which use jazz and classical music, respectively. Perceval ou le conte du Graal de Chrétien de Troyes est un poème qui trace le développement d'un des chevaliers de la Table Ronde. Ce poème inclut aussi le récit d'un autre chevalier: Gauvain. Pendant beaucoup de ces épisodes, les deux chevaliers rencontrent et aident de nombreuses filles ou femmes. La fonction de la présence de ces femmes ainsi que ce qu'elle disent aux chevaliers est pluridimensionnelle. Cette étude va alors souligner quelques cas où les femmes ou bien leur discours a une fonction spécifique dans le poème.

In certain ways, France paralleled what was happening in the rest of the world; in other ways the changes were different, or slower or occasionally even took place faster.

La période avant la révolution française s'appelle l’Ancien Régime, système politique en France qui prend fin en 1789, l’année de la révolution. En plus, la monarchie absolue contrôlait le pays de manière despotique. C’est dans cet environnement de tension que Molière, dramaturge français du 17e siècle, écrit Le Misanthrope en 1666. Dans son oeuvre théâtrale Le Misanthrope, il critique les moeurs sociales qui caractérisaient la France de l’époque. Molière évoque un questionnement social qui se voit de manière préliminaire dans son oeuvre. En revanche, De Gouges, qui écrit en 1791, expose des questionnements plus élaborés que ceux de Molière.
