You Too? 24 Journals That Champion Women's Writing, Laura Moretz
The Review Review
In this time of VIDA counts and #metoo awareness, some writers may seek literary journals that focus on publishing work by women and nonbinary, female-identified writers. Some of these journals have been working to support work exclusively by women for decades, such as CALYX, which was established in 1976 and has introduced many women writers to the literary world or published them early in their careers. But CALYX is in good company with other lit mags that share this specialty and have weathered the decades—as well as many that are new to the scene.

Inequality In Publishing: What Can Be Done?, Becky Tuch
The Review Review
By now you’ve surely seen the numbers. VIDA, an organization dedicated to women in the literary arts, has done an incredible service to the literary community by amassing the statistics regarding gender breakdown in publishing. If you’ve seen the pie charts, then you know: women writers are in trouble. So we must now ask ourselves: What can be done in the interest of equality?

Beyond Privilege: Building A Writing Life When You Have No Room Of Your Own, Claire Rudy Foster
Beyond Privilege: Building A Writing Life When You Have No Room Of Your Own, Claire Rudy Foster
The Review Review
What do you need to write? A pen and paper, for some people. Keyboard. You need a table or a lap or a drawing board. If you’re making an outline or storyboard, you need a wall to pin your notes on and watch them as they migrate. These objects and surfaces have to be secure, too. The worst fear is leaving a notebook open and losing pages to the wind. A writer is usually one hard drive crash away from total misery. But, looking more deeply, the writer’s craft requires space. And time. The combination of these, in the act …

¡Qué Bueno! Literary Magazines For Latino And Bilingual Writers, Lauren Rheaume
The Review Review
As The Acentos Review website states, “The debate may rage forever as to who or what constitutes Latin@ art...We are already here, writing the histories of our neighborhoods, following the traditions of our ancestors, as well as the poetic traditions that came before us.” Whereas Latino writers may be among the underrepresented, underappreciated artists of our world, there are certainly many outlets carved out specifically for them to display their talents. There are also many encouraging communities out there, like the Latino Writer’s Collective of Kansas City, and the Facebook community Con Tinta which “believes in affirming a pro-active …

Editor Stephanie G'Schwind packs a lot of work into this 200-page volume.

Journal Has Heart, But Not Without Faults; Review Of December, Spring/Summer 2018, Craig Ledoux
The Review Review
It is a sense of unease, a creeping evil, that december brings front and center to the Spring/Summer issue of 2018. The cover image, stitched woolwork by Lisa Ann Auerbach, depicts a cobwebbed bookcase, half full of books on wealth and deal making, written by and for the current president. On the bottom shelf, a revolver is wedged between Think Big and Kick Ass and The America We Deserve. Above, two books by Adolf Hitler—which the president reportedly owns—are bookended by a handgun. In her artist’s statement, Auerbach says she made the piece “before the election, back when everyone …

Esteemed Lit Mag Charts Wide Experience Of Human Nature; Review Of Five Points, Winter 2015 - 2016, Tripp Reade
The Review Review
Shall I begin with the Five Points 17.1 contributor’s list? Will you want to know that these pages are spangled with NEA, Guggenheim, and Rockefeller fellowships, Pushcart, Library of Congress, and AWP prizes, magazine editors, professors, and poets-in residence? That the list of their published chapbooks, collections, short stories, and novels would consume the rest of this review if I let it? Or will it be better to turn aside, into a consideration of the issue itself? The latter? By all means, then.

A Place For The Offbeat; Review Of Jokes Review, Summer 2018, Kim Jacobs-Beck
The Review Review
Some writers specialize in humor or in the offbeat. Even those who do not sometimes play with the form. Jokes Review wants to see your funny poem or offbeat piece of fiction. This is a new journal, started in summer 2016, published biannually online and in print. Editors Peter Clarke, Matt Kramer, Mark Dwyer and Erica Stumpe say that their vision is to “promote writers and artists whose work just took a wrong turn and went ever-so-gracefully off the deep end.” They accept all literary genres and visual art, and encourage experimental, hybrid, humorous, and “scraps” of writing, as well …

Where Are The Female Lit Mag Editors? Here., Danielle Lazarin
The Review Review
What has always stuck with me about the VIDA count isn’t the statistics themselves—horrid but not, if you’re from any underrepresented group, shocking—but the discussion, mostly anecdotal, of how women are not repeat submitters to literary magazines; men are more likely to send out again once they’ve been rejected. This was me: I have many kind rejections, years old, that say “please send again,” or “we’d like to see more work,” and yet, I didn’t.

The Researched Argument
Research in progress for ENGL 2332: World Literature I
Faculty Mentor: W. Scott Cheney, Ph.D.
The following paper represents work produced by a student in a World Literature I course at Collin College. Students read a selection of texts that survey world literature from the ancient world through the sixteenth century. Because the researched argument requires students to not only read the assigned piece of literature but also to enter into the scholarly conversation about that work in academic journals, successful students like Marie Peteuil find themselves producing advanced writing that shows early preparation for upper-division courses …

English Department: Research for Change - Wicked Problems in Our World
The Black Lives Matter movement first started in 2013 by three strong African Americans women: Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors and Opal Tometi. The movement was created after black lives were being taken by police officers in shootings that could have been deescalated. The research project introduces on how the movement was started and the goal is for the readers to understand why the people are so angry, the reasons they are protesting and to fight for equality around the United States. Since this is still an accruing issue, I tried to get all the info I could get in as …

Vital-Historical And Eternal Themes In Khaled Hosseini’S Novels, Dilnoza Ruzmatova Phd Student
Philology Matters
In the study of literature the themes of fiction are divided into vital-historical and eternal themes. Vital-historical themes refer to the conditions resulted in character upbringing in the socio-historical situation and they can’t exist outside of this certain time and place. The eternal themes indicate the repeated events in all the periods of all the nations. The combination of several themes in one work is expressed in literary studies with the concept of “thematic”. When faced with such a situation, one or two major themes may be separated, and the rest should be explored as secondary. The objective of this …

The paper continues to analyze the language of international organizations, its development and importance of its correct understanding in the course of partners’ communication with different languages, which requires translators to be more attentive to avoid discrapencies and confusions while translating dialogues or presentations at some official meetings. The topicality of such research is obvious. Thus in the article the authors decided to discuss a very interesting phenomenon of buzzwords and ‘plastic’ words as a distinct class of words. For that, they reviewed key publications on development discourse and eleven characteristics of development buzzwords and plastic words were identified and …

This article analyzes that the media image is an important tool for shaping the image of the country and the theoretical and cognitive aspects of the image.
We perceive an object or event through our senses, see and hear them. We understand and comprehend the new information received. Therefore, in the modern media space, it is important to understand the content of information about a country, positive or negative information about the image of the region, to understand the realities of what is …
