Outside Chicago is a manuscript based on my recollections of my childhood community of Burnham, Illinois. In the process of writing this manuscript it occurred to me that I have always tried to separate myself from any association with that community. When I left for college and then graduate school, I was ashamed of where I came from, but could not rid myself of the mentality or ethics the community gave me. The Black Box is a club administered by the students of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Prescott Arizona. The Black Box's funding is provided by the Student Government Association.

The Black Box is staffed by volunteer students from various academic disciplines.

This magazine's literary and artistic contents were selected for publication during the Spring 2003 semester. The Black Box staff would like to thank the contributors to this issue and inform all of those contributors whose work did not appear in this issue that their work may be printed at a later date.

Nexus Literary Journal

Nexus is a magazine that began as an insert in the Wright State Guardian student newspaper in 1965 and has since been published semi-regularly. It began only accepting creative writing, but has since expanded to include illustrations, photography and other non-written art forms. Today, it is published in a digital format and accepts submissions from around the country, though it maintains its commitment to the Wright State Community.

Masters Theses

understanding reflection is a collection of poems which examines reflection both as an element of memory and self-image. The thirty-six poems represent devices and conventions employed by Philip Larkin, Donald Justice, Kamala Das, and Adrienne Rich. The style and voice mastered by these four poets served as an inspiring force in my creative efforts. The thesis introduction examines the voices of these poets and their influence on my work -- particularly in respect to my exploration of sexual, cultural and familial tensions.
