The banal events of everyday life, when highlighted through the use of image and narrative, and combined with an active imagination, can be transformed into a literature that displays something miraculous. In some sense, this idea is related to the ideas of existentialism—the assertion that life is contingent or purposeless leads to the assertion that everyday life is an inexplicable miracle. It is also related to the assertion that a narrative is the only construct that can transmit meaning.

Life Study: A Collection Of Persona Poetry, Denise Louise Mcnelly

In an attempt for both the author and readers to better understand the personae presented in "Life Study," this collection of verse emerged. Using the form of the persona poem, the author includes the voices of such diverse personae as one who experiences hang-gliding in an ethereal way, to a woman who sues an alcohol company for her husband's alcoholism, to a geographically-isolated youngster dealing with a society of which she is not a part, to one who has survived physical violence. These poems are grouped as they are in order to reflect a progression, a trail at the end of which my own spirituality is not found, but revealed. A subtitle might be Dilemmas and Destinations, for each poem can also be viewed individually as a struggle or desire to reach this goal. In fact, I label my two sub-sections in precisely these terms. I have organized them not to build upon one another, but to act as "snapshots" that describe my beliefs. Nexus Literary Journal

Nexus is a magazine that began as an insert in the Wright State Guardian student newspaper in 1965 and has since been published semi-regularly. It began only accepting creative writing, but has since expanded to include illustrations, photography and other non-written art forms. Today, it is published in a digital format and accepts submissions from around the country, though it maintains its commitment to the Wright State Community.
