Overview: A first-year PhD student in the English Department, I am working closely with Dr. Ann Fisher-Wirth, Editor of The Ecopoetry Anthology, on a creative writing project, “The Book of Red.” My project aims to both uncover the environmental damage wrought upon my hometown of Piscataway, New Jersey and to broaden the field of possibility surrounding ecocriticism, especially regarding fabulist literature and fairy tales. National Youth Advocacy & Resilience Conference
Willowcreek Middle School in Portage Indiana is not your typical alternative school. We offer trauma informed practices in place of student expulsions. A safe structured environment, reduced class time, academic strategies, mindfulness, yoga, and community service, all help to provide the educational and social/emotional support necessary to help students at risk reach their potential and eventually transition back to the traditional classroom.

Whose Line Is It, Anyway?: Doing Harm In Disability Memoir, Teresa Milbrodt
Journal of Creative Writing Studies
This paper examines disability memoirs, and the author's responsibility to their community versus their personal story. While telling stories of disability can be a means of sharing one's truth, authors may be wrongly interpreted as speaking for a diverse community of individuals, or they may do harm to other disabled people by devaluing an entire group. Some memoirsts have avoided this potential for harm by expanding their notions of disability and community to embrace intersectionality, but it is vital to read a wide variety of disability memoirs to gain this complex picture.

The Weave Of Youth Writing: Refiguring Authorship And Self-Representation In Michaela Deprince’S Collaborative Archive Of Life Narrative Texts, Alberta Natasia Adji

Young people have to struggle in navigating the complex cultural and socio-political frameworks of production if they would like to reclaim agency and legitimacy to voice their aspirations. This article focuses on questions of authorship and self-representation in both the traditional and digital life writing texts created by and produced for Sierra-Leonean-American ballet dancer Michaela DePrince, which turns out to be highly mediated by her Jewish Caucasian adoptive mother Elaine DePrince. I argue that the manners of Michaela’s collaborative archive of life narrative projects–which bring about issues of authorship–have conformed her self-representation to particular identity frames in terms of race, …

The Goose
This piece, an excerpt from an ongoing manuscript of plein-air nature writing, is one of forty projected journal entries involving excursions beginning before sunrise, with exploration of natural settings and observations of natural phenomena (birds, plants, mammals, insects, water, clouds, light, the sun, etc.) interwoven with readings about morning in scientific texts, poetry, and other kinds of writing.

This poster presents a transcript poem created with murder tales in oral history recordings. Leveraging the creative arts of storytelling, transcript poetry and visual orality, the poster brings light and music to Appalachian storyteller voices in tales of shady murders.
The handout presents the poem with visual orality methods juxtaposed beside Standard English orthographic transcription, enabling a visual comparison, a link a video with graphic text and the original voice recordings, and brief readings about concepts and methods.

El Valle del Río Grande es el punto más al sur de Texas en la frontera entre Estados Unidos y México, separado por el Río Grande / Bravo y desde 2008 dividido por un muro fronterizo fragmentado en el lado tejano.
