At seventeen Roger Fishinger’s a pretty good pitcher. But his older brother Bob’s a pitcher, too—and a once-in-a-generation type talented pitcher, with Big Leagues written all over him. The way Roger sees it, the only way to make up some ground in this probably unwinnable sibling rivalry is to start by getting a Division One scholarship. That, and nothing less. Junkballer is a short novel told from the perspective of Roger over the course of his junior-to-senior year summer as he tries achieving this goal, while navigating the world of youth travel baseball and all its quirks. whitenoise is a creative memoir that explores themes of abuse, mental illness, self-harm, and recovery. Through a selection of poetry and prose, the author documents her life from early childhood to adulthood, dissecting and spreading apart relationships and recurring dreams to find the bones that connect. This memoir illuminates the aftermath of abuse and trauma and the never-ending recovery process. The author utilizes poetry and prose alike to unearth buried memories in order to continue the path to healing.

I conducted 6 interviews with Gen Z students to investigate how they think climate change will impact their future and how they frame the issue in general. I communicate my findings and analysis with visual context through a zine, which is a form of alternative media created in the 1930s. Today, zines provide a creative approach to exchange ideas and explain contemporary culture (Gisonny and Freedman, 2006, 26). This project is intended to serve as a guide for present and future writing consultants in navigating creative writing-based consultations. Preliminary research was conducted among existing employees of the Frederick Meijer Center for Writing and Michigan Authors in order to gauge which aspects of consulting on creative writing they felt the most uneasy facing. These were narrowed down to four main areas. By combining discussions held during the Creative Writing Committee team and secondary research, strategies were designed in order to help navigate these specific areas.
