Riles relates how John H. Wigmore, professor and Dean of the Northwestern Law School, fanned her interest in legal and literary fiction. Wigmore provided dozens of examples of legal fictions bundled together in the singular, and seemingly straightforward technical device of modern collateral. From this premise, she analyzes the difference between a legal fiction and a literary fiction, and examines the factors that make legal fiction distinctively legal.

The following thesis consists of five short stories. My work has a regional emphasis, with each story set in Iowa. "Up Wau Hollow" tells about Ginny, a girl whose family lives up Wau Hollow in the Loess Hills of southwestern Iowa. "Cabbie" focuses on a cab driver with an active imagination. He works hard at distancing himself from people and from life. "Letting Go" is the story of a mother torn between her maternal instinct and letting go of her daughter. "View from the Flying Wienie" brings together two characters that might not have met if it weren't for the …

There is a dizzying array of syllabi for various advanced exposition courses. Many of these syllabi address student writing development issues such as clarity, style, logic, and organization. They also address traditional focuses as description, narration, information, and argument. They can include anything from grammar texts to cable news web sites as required reading, and they usually include reassuring terms such as "improvement" to remind the student that s/he already has the basic skills necessary to compose a quality essay. Coleridge's Conversation Poems lacked due attention from literary critics and scholars for ages. They are original compositions which have their sources in early poetic traditions of the 18th century. They manifest Coleridge's ability to experiment with traditional forms and introduce a new genre, which is more simple in style, while rich in philosophical and psychological depth. The unity between form and content, as seen in these poems, was a phenomenal occurrence in their time, while their spiral structure enables the poet to express his poetic thought with all its complexities. A substantial body of science fiction authors, critics and fans appreciate the literary attention the New Wave of the '60s and '70s brought to the genre of science fiction, but regret the seemingly lasting move away from the hard science classics of the '50s and before. They argue that "the hard stuff' is at the very heart of sf and that its future—still on the path set by the New Wave—is ostensibly a dead end. The creative non-fiction genre, in particular memoir and travel writing, is in a state of constant evolution. Furthermore, as we progress further into postmodern times, writing (both fiction and non-fiction, as well as poetry and drama) becomes more and more confessional and fragmented. These two facts make it difficult to classify the following memoir. It is both travel narrative and memoir on the body, but perhaps none of the traditional writers in either of these camps would claim my piece. "The House at the Edge of the World" is a collection of narrative poems and seven short stories. The prevalent theme in the collection is the convergence of psychological space and physical place, with an emphasis on how this tension can continue or disrupt the formation of identity. l1I The narrative poems such as "Midwifing Indiana" and "Switchman" explore this theme through use of historical context, polyphonic voices, and archetypal figures. The self-proclaimed “third wave” ofUnited Statesfeminism, which rose from the abyss of “postfeminist” 1980s conservatism in the early 1990s, is a vibrant movement that is quickly picking up the pace of feminist organizing in the new millennium. Third wave feminists envision themselves as taking up the torch of the 1960-1970s “second wave” of feminism, but expanding upon it by emphasizing intersectionality (the complex interaction of multiple oppressions, e.g. sexism, racism, classism) and making room for sexiness, joy, and fun in feminist organizing and theorizing. It is a discourse that strives toward and privileges intersectional analyses that create space in which …
