In 1986, an excavation was conducted on Tel Mor (Tel Al-Hidar; map ref. 16753/63689) in Ashdod, about one km from the seashore. The excavation, on behalf of the Department of Antiquities and Museums, was directed by I. Eldar. A well was excavated at the center of the tell.

Sovereignty And Coinage In Classical Greece, Thomas R. Martin

This book examines the common assumption that coins were produced in classical Greece to serve as symbols of the political sovereignty of the state, much like flags of modern nations. Since the beginning of modern numismatics studies, scholars have used this assumption to establish the chronology of numerous Greek coinages and, in turn, to make hypotheses about important historical events, especially the intervention in Greek affairs of Philip II, Alexander the Great, and their early successors.

The purpose of this thesis is to study the temples of the Late Bronze Period found within the geographical area of Palestine. A number of previous studies have been done on this subject, but they have principally been all inclusive works, and have not dealt with any specific time period. In the present study, a number of factors have been considered. The ground-plans of the various temples, as well as their locations within the city plan, have been investigated both chronologically and geographically. This thesis consists of five basic units: a general history of the cylinder seal, a discussion of the seals on an artistic level, a general history of Palestine at the time the seals were being made, and Late Bronze Age cylinder seals as indicators of cultural influence. There are four appendices which include typology, a catalogue of cylinder seals, a glossary and plates.
