This thesis is about the politicization of hairstyles in imperial China. They indicated conformity with social norms, or rebellion against them. This was especially true under the country’s last dynasty. The Manchu conquerors imposed their own hairstyle, the queue, on their Han Chinese subjects to make their rule palpable to China’s illiterate millions. “Hair martyrs” who refused to accept this “barbarous” hairstyle were ruthlessly eliminated. The Manchus had feared assimilation into the much larger Han population. But the introduction of one uniform male hair style for both Manchus and Han blurred the lines between the two groups. Although research has established that students of color have unique experiences in their multicultural training, few studies have examined the experiences and needs of specific subgroups of students of color. This study examined Chinese American psychology trainees’ experiences in multicultural education. Qualitative data was collected from individual semi-structured interviews with Chinese American doctoral students (N = 6). Interpretative phenomenological analysis was used to understand participants’ perceptions of their experiences in multicultural courses. On 7 July 1937, Japanese forces based in Manchuria charged southward towards Beijing, invading north China and hence starting the Second Sino-Japanese War (1937–45). On 7 December 1941, Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, transforming the Second Sino-Japanese War into the Pacific War. As a result of Pearl Harbor, the status of Allied citizens living in China at the time changed from neutral to ‘enemy aliens’. These Allied citizens included individuals and their families who worked in China as government officials, executives, engineers and Christian missionaries. Mei Lan-fang was the most well-known Beijing Opera practitioner specializing in the impersonation of historical and mythological female characters. His captivating performance style is known as “The School of Mei”. It balances the external stage presence and internal precision and attends to the minutiae. His performances were drawn predominantly from the classic repertoire, and they have won him the position that “no other Chinese actor attained and retained” (Scott ii). This essay evaluates and critiques the studies of Chinese imperial law in line with Edward Said’s proposition of ‘Orientalism’. It identifies three major stages: the classical legal Orientalism, emphasising the heterogeneity of Chinese and Western laws based on Western values; the ‘neo-legal Orientalism’, stressing the homogeneity of the two by taking Western culture also as the assessment standard; and Oriental legalism, seeking Chinese subjectivity with Chinese perspectives and resources. Learning a language can be hard. Learning a language that contains tones to convey meaning is even harder. This dissertation presents a novel methodology for creating a language practice using augmented reality that has never been used before. The design of a new app in AR and non-AR versions can evaluate the same practice methodology. This methodology was applied to new software and was examined in regard to the importance of this software. 二百年來粵音聲韻的變化 : 以馬禮遜（1782 - 1834）為考察對象, Wing Nam Lam

馬禮遜（1782–1834）是第一位來華的基督教傳教士及牧師，一生致力宣揚基督福音和研究漢語。馬禮遜的最大成就，莫過於研究當時粵語和粵音。1815年，馬禮遜出版《通用漢言之法》，當中記載338個以粵音標注的漢字，可謂有史以來第一本記下粵方言語音資料的文獻，其重要性不言而喻。1828年，馬禮遜出版《廣東省土話字彙》，進一步記錄當時粵音和粵各地區方言的資料，更是奠定馬禮遜於早期粵語及粵音研究的重要地位。

本論文先介紹研究緣起、粵音概況及研究方法，之後介紹及分析馬禮遜《通用漢言之法》和《廣東省土話字彙》的音韻系統，與現今粵音的聲母及韻母作比較，既集中研究與展現二百年前的粵音概況，亦可令讀者思考粵語及粵音應當何去何從。

An overview of how friendship has been represented and assessed in the Confucian tradition, and particularly in classical Confucian texts such as the Analects and the Mencius. Themes covered include the relationship between the family and friendship, the ambivalence towards friendship in imperial China, and the connection between friendship and the Confucian ideal of personal cultivation. The chapter finishes by exploring novel conceptions of friendship and human relatedness suggested by the Confucian tradition.

本文試圖以《江南女性別集》中歸懋儀、駱綺蘭、汪端三位女詩人為代表，探討清代知識女性在經歷家道中落、喪夫之痛、被迫走出閨閣之後，以何種姿態在禮教殘酷的社會中生存。歸懋儀憑藉才名游走於江浙間任閨塾師，擔起養家重任；駱綺蘭雖為寡婦，卻能靠自己的雙手自活，廣結文人閨秀，建立女詩人社交圈；汪端欲通過選詩修史來達到不朽，向道問禪以求慰藉。這種或身體或心理的流動給予了她們獨特的寫作風格，兼有女性的細膩善感和不輸男性的豪壯大氣。分別聯繫其詩作和處境、命運展開討論，展現詩中的女性意識，觀女性對遼闊天地的所見所聞所思，女性詩人的作品價值方得以表彰和揭示。

「跨性別」指所表現的行為與社會期待下的原生理性別不一致之個體，猶如將對的靈魂裝在錯的身體裏。本文選取了三部以跨性別為題材的當代電影分析亞洲地區跨性別人士的現況，包括由王育麟導演執導的台灣電影《阿莉芙》、李駿碩導演執導的香港電影《翠絲》和陳立謙導演執導馬來西亞電影《迷失安狄》，三地在性別平權的進度上亦有較大的差異。三位導演都是當地的華人，以華人的角度出發，更深入分析和呈現每一個地方的民眾對跨性別的看法。本文通過分析電影敘事與電影語言如何帶出亞洲跨性別人士所需面對的困境和狀況，包括在宗教、家庭、職場等方面細看跨性別人士在不同階段所面對的困難。

封建禮教的束縛與女性意識 : 從《浮生六記》中的陳芸談起, Yiu Man Chow

本文集中以女性意識的角度，闡發《浮生六記》裡陳芸的傳統女子形象、現代性表現及兩者的兼容性，藉此剖析傳統禮教對女性形象的束縛及現代女性意識1的覺醒。除前言以外，第二節「封建禮教下的女性角色」，主要論述傳統社會對不同女性角色的影響；第三節「個性解放的女性意識及推動因素」，寫陳芸女性意識覺醒的體現及推因素；第四節則以「女性意識萌發與封建社會的對立」為題，分析陳芸所處社會的限制，剖析封建禮教對女性意識的迫害。第五節為結語。全文最後歸結出《浮生六記》裡，陳芸在封建社會下確有女性覺醒的萌芽，雖難抵傳統教育與社會環境的侵蝕，也對女性實現自主獨立具有積極意義。

論「黛玉之死」的苦和悲劇美, Lim Long Ng

林黛玉為《紅樓夢》重要人物之一。小說中黛玉出自書香世家，生性聰敏，自小讀書識字，極具詩才。母親早逝，由外祖母接至賈府照顧，和表兄寶玉一同在賈府長大，展開悲劇的一生。《紅樓夢》為一部悲劇著作，以「情」為主題，寫大觀園一眾女子的故事，曹雪芹於小說中暗示「千紅一哭」、「萬豔同悲」，令主題統一，故作者安排黛玉一個「悲」的結局，在藝術手法上為合理的。黛玉因情轉世，亦因情而亡，作為小說中的悲劇人物，於情節安排以及主題發揮上，扮演重要角色。

黛玉最終的結局，因版本不一與「紅樓夢未完」之故，歷年來一直備受爭議。然而，各家之言，皆一致認為黛玉的生命，始於不幸，終於虛無，黛玉承受的痛苦多而深，於小說的悲劇美學上，存有很高的價值。本文以「黛玉之死」為題，首先綜合歷來各學者之說法和版本，選其最佳者作研究對象，繼而從情節和詩詞中，分析黛玉的身世、體質、性格、命運，以窺探其早夭的原因與死亡的痛苦。

論蘇偉貞女性眷村小說「封閉」的意義, Yee Lam Tseng

眷村第二代作家蘇偉貞在八零年代因作品多以男女情愛為主，被批評缺乏討論現實問題。筆者認為，蘇偉貞雖然表面上聚焦男女情慾的問題，但是其小說的核心關懷實爲探討第一代眷村女性在臺灣歷史中「失語」的困境，並藉此思考第二代女性放下歷史包袱、勇於走出「封閉」眷村的可能性。故本論文主張蘇偉貞從其眷村小說《有緣千里》開始探討眷村內部的女性議題，並在臺灣解嚴後出版的小說中《離開同方》正式為族群的女性發聲。

本論文以這兩部小說作為研究對象，首先討論蘇偉貞寫作時的「封閉」狀態，並延伸分析小說中兩代眷村女性所面臨的困境。第三章將藉分析兩代女性「封閉」的內心世界，探討第一代眷村女性在臺灣歷史中「失語」的困境以及第二代女性逃離的慾望。第四章則反思兩代眷村女性如何通過追尋自我，尋找走出這個「封閉」世界的意義。

The Isolated As The Revolutionary: How “Leftover” Men In China Challenge Heteronormativity, Ruwen Chang

In contemporary China, demographers estimate that 30 million men are single because there are simply not enough women in the Chinese population, and the 2020 Chinese census shows that there are 34.9 million more men than women. These men are called guanggun, which can be directly translated to “bare sticks/branches,” a slur that indicates a lack of marriage and sex. In this project, I demonstrate that guanggun’s singlehood marks them as the marginalized at the intersection of heteronormativity, patriarchy, globalizing capitalism, and pronatalist governmentality. In a highly heteronormative and patrilineal culture, guanggun are branded as abnormal/incomplete. However, because …

This article investigates the way in which Cuban literature reflected on indigenous people during the early half of the nineteenth century and uses the symbol of the Amerindians to demonstrate a moral disjuncture between them and the colonizer. This paper explores the concepts of "Border Culture" and "Borderlands" by Gloria Anzaldúa in Soy la Avon Lady and Other Stories, Homicide Survivors Picnic and Other Stories, by Lorraine López and the novel Mijito Doesn’t Live Here Anymore by Jaime Martínez. The paper argues that the Mexican American character in the southeast of the United States lives in the "Borderlands" and practices a "Border Culture" because they don't follow the traditional stereotypical role of the Mexican American character within the literary canon of both the dominant culture and Chicana/o literature.

The past 3 years of the COVID-19 global pandemic has seen a rise in anti-Asian racism and hate. However, in Ohio, where Asians make up only 2.2% of the population, there is little visibility for Asians and Asian Americans. This study aims to document the diverse experiences of students and staff of East Asian descent, at The College of Wooster, during the past three years of the pandemic. 曹文軒，1954年出生在江蘇省鹽城市，2016年獲得安徒生獎，該獎素有諾貝爾兒童文學獎的美譽。其創作的兒童文學作品有《草房子》、《細米》、《青銅葵花》等，作品善於觀察兒童的生活，用詩意的語言和悲憫情懷展現兒童生活悲傷和苦難的一面。大多學者研究曹文軒作品的語言技巧和主旨思想，或人物形象的塑造，缺乏從創作理念的角度切入論述，亦欠缺人物的身體書寫分析。

本文以曹文軒作品裏的兒童身體受虐為研究對象，以兒童本位觀的創作理念對照分析。第一章為緒論，分別説明本文之寫作緣起、兒童文學領域對兒童本位觀和身體敘事的研究，及本文採用的研究方法；第二章以曹文軒作品中疾病、殘疾和死亡三種身體受虐形式，探討它們如何與兒童本位觀的創作視角、兒童價值和個體意義三個層面相呼應；第三章承接上章從曹文軒作品內部對於身體書寫和兒童本位觀的分析，擴大至各個時期兒童文學對於兒童本位觀的接受——先從五四時期的兒童的發現開始，後闡釋各個時期對於兒童視角和成人視角的選擇。第四章為結論，整合全文中心要點。

伏爾泰《中國孤兒》對中國傳統的重塑, Yuk Na Ying

一七五五年，伏爾泰把紀君祥的元雜劇《趙氏孤兒》改寫為《中國孤兒》，並在劇本中重塑中國傳統。本文剖析《中國孤兒》之劇本，探析伏爾泰對中國傳統重新構建之意涵，並從啟蒙思想角度出發，思考「忠」觀念在當今社會的意涵和效用。本文指出，伏爾泰改編《趙氏孤兒》的出發點是為了匡正當時法國腐敗墮落的政冶風俗。他借鑒中國文化的可取之處，結合本人的思想哲學，並對中國傳統加以重塑，其目的是為了宣揚啟蒙思想。本文並指出在現今社會，傳統「忠」觀念應以理性主義為準繩，才能與時並進，發揮最大效用。

淺析余華90年代長篇小說的小人物書寫 : 以《在細雨中呼喊》、《活著》和《許三觀賣血記》為例, Shurou Guan

「小人物」是余華小說中的重要核心，他們樸素而鮮活，充滿旺盛的生命力。在他的筆下，小人物具有迥然不同的生命形態和個性表達，這些書中人物無疑體現作家的情感以及展露其精神走向，透出對社會的人文關懷。

本文選取並討論余華90年代的三篇長篇小說《細雨中呼喊》、《活著》和《許三觀賣血記》，並探討小說中的小人物書寫。文章分四部分：引言部分簡略介紹余華，然後闡述論文研究背景、方法及概況；正文部分主要介紹小人物在文學上的重要性，以及所選三部作品中小人物的特點；之後重點分析余華筆下的小人物之形象轉變，以及探討余華三部作品如何善用不同的視角達到寫作目的，來呈現作品的人物角力之轉變，最後總結全文。

從《宣驗記》論六朝佛家思想和文學價值, Ying Ying Chen

劉義慶《宣驗記》是中國志怪小説之一，被魯迅評為釋氏輔教之書。中國人本身深受儒家和道家思想影響，佛教能立根中國，為中國人所認識，實有賴社會環境和佛教徒的努力，社會也漸漸出現信奉佛教的作家，他們創作小說時會加入佛教思想。另外，《宣驗記》中的佛教故事不但能宣揚佛家思想，對後世創作也帶來巨大影響。然而，現在大部分有關六朝志怪小說研究的學術文章主要分析小說中的佛家思想或其分類，但缺少全面的研究，如︰佛教發展興盛的原因和佛教故事帶來的影響。

故本論文先概述佛教在六朝的發展和原因。其次分析《宣驗記》小說故事內容與其佛家思想，進一步佛教在六朝社會傳播的情形、六朝社會狀況和民眾佛教信仰的情況。最後分析《宣驗記》中的佛教故事在宗教和文學上作出什麼貢獻。

論蘇軾櫽栝詞, Po Man Law

蘇軾是宋朝著名的文學家，他詩文了得，熟悉音律，但最大的貢獻莫過於提升詞的地位。除了豪放詞，蘇軾也有創立櫽栝詞體，並使櫽栝詞在日後成為獨立的詞體。然而作為櫽栝詞開山鼻祖的蘇軾，其櫽栝詞卻甚少被研究，且因定義問題，前人的研究頗有參差。本篇論文從蘇軾的九首櫽栝詞展開討論，組織前人研究並為櫽栝進行定義，隨後將蘇軾的櫽栝詞分為「與原文相近」、「略有增損」、「與原文不相近」及「沒有按照原文櫽栝」四類，從詞牌、音律及內容轉變探討它們與原文的藝術形式改變。因蘇軾的九首櫽栝詞中，有八首寫於謫居黃州的時期，所以能充分表露蘇軾於文學高峰時期曠達自適，不將功名利祿放入眼內，但在同時為自己的遭遇哀歎的矛盾心態。另外，蘇軾的櫽栝詞隱含了頗多哲學思想，且初步透露了蘇軾後期的「三教合一」思想。本篇論文最後探討後人對蘇軾櫽栝詞褒貶不一的評價，然而不少後人模仿蘇軾的櫽栝詞，甚至有只寫櫽栝詞的詞人，因此蘇軾的櫽栝詞對櫽栝詞體甚為重要。另外因大部分櫽栝詞寫於黃州時期，所以對研究蘇軾的黃州時期頗有幫助。從幾方面均可證明蘇軾的櫽栝詞有充分的研究價值，不可被忽略。
