New Woman In Early Twentieth-Century Chinese Fiction, Jin Feng
Comparative Cultural Studies
In The New Woman in Early Twentieth-Century Chinese Fiction, Jin Feng proposes that representation of the "new woman" in Communist Chinese fiction of the earlier twentieth century was paradoxically one of the ways in which male writers of the era explored, negotiated, and laid claim to their own emerging identity as "modern" intellectuals. Specifically, Feng argues that male writers such as Lu Xun, Yu Dafu, Ba Jin, and Mao Dun created fictional women as mirror images of their own political inadequacy, but that at the same time this was also an egocentric ploy to affirm and highlight the modernity …

A Bibliographic Survey On Baba Literature Focus On Chinese Literary Translated Works Into Baba Malay, Suan Kui Yoong

This study analyses the Baba translated works between 1889-1950, focusing on 68 unique titles identified from six libraries: University of Malaya Library, and the libraries at Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka, University Science of Malaysia, National Library of Singapore, National University of Singapore and the British Library. The Baba translated works indicated three periods of publication productivity between 1889-1909 (the embryonic period), which produced 18 publications, between 1910- 1929 (the stagnant period) with IO titles and between 1930-1939 (the revival period) with 39 titles. Modern Mahua literature refers to the literature written in Chinese by writers in Malaysia. It appeared in 1919 and since then, this literature has developed for more than eighty years. However, due to limitations of language and translation, many who do not know the Chinese language never have the opportunity to appreciate modern Mahua literature. This dissertation is an effort to investigate modern Mahua literature. It is hoped that with this research the national literature of Malaysia would be further enriched, and a new form of literature be established in the country. Chen Ruoxi has been renowned Chinese fiction writer since the 1970s and Yin xianzhang (Mayor Yin), a collection of six short stories, is set to be her most representative works. The collection depicts the sufferings and hardship of the chinese people during China's Cultural Resolution (1966-1976), in particular the cadres and the intellectuals, who either returned to China from abroad or were locals. Although the influence of the Chinese culture on Ezra Pound has long been recognized in the study of his Cantos, the question of whether his work should be regarded as a "transmission" or an "invention" requires a more substantial consideration of both his work and the Chinese tradition. This thesis attempts to supply an evidence to T. s. Eliot's answer to the question about Pound's status regarding the Chinese culture--namely, that Pound was "the inventor of the Chinese poetry for our times."
