The group of works that I am presenting as my Master of Fine Arts thesis exhibition is a selection of my best work from the past three years. It is made up of two different artistic forms: fairly small sculptures comprised of aluminum channel and plexiglas, on the one hand, and lithographs and watercolors, on the other.

Alternative Spaces was a collaborative exhibit of 4 artists on a variety of subjects that acted much like workshops for the graduate students of the respective colleges that hosted them between the years of 1979-1980. The artist that were included in this workshop exhibit were: Dennis Adams, Michael Brewster, Steve Davis, Joan Jonas. With a focus on storytelling, these artist sought to tell stories and ideas through the mediums of sculpture, painting, film, and so on sought to teach expression in a metaphorical method. This catalog features work from an exhibition of artists that were beneficiaries of a regional fellowship program funded by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and administered by the Art Department at Wright State University. Artists from Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan and Minnesota were invited to submit recent work to apply for the fellowship. The exhibition was held at Wright State University Art Galleries in May of 1979.

The project documented in this catalog were first conceived in early 1978 by Ed Levine, then chairman of the Department of Art and Art History at Wright State University, and Betty Collings, then director of the University Gallery at The Ohio State University in Columbus. Both institutions had, for five years, been sponsoring a variety of exhibitions and experimental projects that probed various aspects of contemporary art. The similarity of goals between the two institutions made this collaborative effort possible.

"Current Charts: Chosen Lands", by Richard Fisher, was the title of an exhibition ho s ted by the Fine Arts Gallery from February 9 through March 1, 1978. It comprised sixty-six works spatially and formally separated into two groups by the two levels of the gallery. The lower level presented forty-one works, primarily surface castings of specific sites along the Massachusetts coast, while the upper level housed the artist's Eco-Earth , an incomplete series of twenty-five imaginative drawings.

Held in October through November 1978, this is a flyer for an art exhibit ran by the Wright State University Art Galleries on the subject of art from the 1960s. It featured the works from three artists: Jae Ie Ferrara, Richard Fleischner, and Doug Hollis. Its purpose was to demonstrate the meaning of art of the 1960s in relation to trends of the 1970s. Two other speakers, Stewart Goldman and Laslo Vespremi, spoke and gave lectures alongside the exhibit.

During the spring and summer of 1975 Wright State University organized a cooperative workshop/exhibitions program with three other institutions and, in 1976, received the support of the National Endowment for the Arts. This publication represents the second such program in what is hoped will be a continuing series.
