How To Create A Stunning Video Orientation By Hand, Rachel S. Evans
How To Create A Stunning Video Orientation By Hand, Rachel S. Evans
Articles, Chapters and Online Publications
This article describes the multi-faceted approach UGA Law Library took with their fall 2018 first year student orientation. It describes the process of the creating a virtual tour experience, pairing it with a hybrid face-to-face event, and assessing the impact of all aspects of the orientation. The creation of the video itself involved a multi-media approach using a combination of visual arts and technology to animate a product that has a longer expiration than traditional video or in-person library orientations offer.

Racial Peeves: The Exploitation of Microaggressions documents my personal experience of dealing with microaggressions throughout my life, as well as the history of these racial issues. This thesis also documents the creation of my Senior BFA Exhibition of the same title inspired by 1970s Blaxploitation posters.
Herpes Zoster Patient Education: A Coloring Book Approach, Sophia Charuhas
Herpes Zoster Patient Education: A Coloring Book Approach, Sophia Charuhas
Senior Honors Theses
Shingles, the disease caused by the herpes zoster virus, is a widespread and widely misunderstood illness in the United States. It is preventable, but many at-risk patients do not know what measures they may take to prevent it. Clear communication from physician to patient is crucial for patient understanding of diseases. Many patient education materials on herpes zoster currently available are often unused. It is therefore beneficial to public health to disseminate new mediums of medical communication, and one way of accomplishing this is through adult coloring books. The pathophysiology of herpes zoster virus is here explored and the idea …

CGU MFA Theses
During the process of discovering myself in my art world, I have determined to use cuteness as a way to express my worldview, values, and experiences. Cuteness is my own philosophy and language in the interpersonal communication. I intend to make cuteness meaningful to me as well as to the rest of the world. I believe cuteness contains a power to bring people back to their original simplicity regardless of their age, it is the idea of innocence. Cuteness is like a shield for me to protect myself from the tough, scary and crazy reality; and it is a positive …

The Bunny Who Wore A Red Hat Children's Book, Alyssa N. Myers
Williams Honors College, Honors Research Projects
As an artist as well as a developer, having the ability to think both creatively and critically has helped me become an excellent problem solver. This along with the experience in animation for which I long will transform me to become a great storyteller as well. There is beauty in a universal language that can bring others together, and I believe that is what animation and illustration can accomplish. This project has given me the opportunity to incorporate my illustration skills, practice the writing aspect of storytelling, and develop a small animated trailer for marketing the book. Nevertheless, bringing something …

Hand Lettered, Jennifer L. Shaw
Hand Lettered, Jennifer L. Shaw
Williams Honors College, Honors Research Projects
Around this time last year, I discovered hand lettering on chalkboards around Folk for the NASAD accreditation show. I found these pieces to be particularly inspiring and wanted to learn how to create something similar. Having absolutely no experience with hand lettering I knew that this was going to be a long process. I tasked myself with creating 100 small pieces in varying styles to teach myself hand lettering. I was inspired to end the project with a large chalkboard mural about the school of art to then be donated to the school when the project is complete. The reason …
The Call Of The Undertow, Rebekah Bradford
The Call Of The Undertow, Rebekah Bradford
Williams Honors College, Honors Research Projects
Artist Statement
Prior to becoming a graphic design student, I was very interested in illustration. I wanted an opportunity to hone my illustration skills, focus on one consistent style of illustration, consistently draw the same characters, and practice writing. Creating a children’s book gave me the opportunity to do all of those things. And, after several semesters of work, it’s great to finally see The Call of the Undertow completed! I hope that you enjoy reading this story and looking at the images because I enjoyed creating it.
Simplification: An Effective Visual Solution For Graphic Design, Yihan Wang
Simplification: An Effective Visual Solution For Graphic Design, Yihan Wang
Theses and Dissertations
Simplification, as an effective visual solution, is frequently applied in modern graphic design. During my graduate studies, this method was integrated with each project including identity design, package design and print design. As a result, it not only helped clarify thoughts in the creative process, but it also helped form a relatively consistent style. However, since graphic design refers to communication via visual elements, this presents the problem of whether simplification affects the transfer of information. In other words, the degree to which the visual language should be literal needs discussion and exploration. Contrary to the simplified expression of graphic …
Visual Tension In Graphic Design, Raven Heinstein
Visual Tension In Graphic Design, Raven Heinstein
Mahurin Honors College Capstone Experience/Thesis Projects
My thesis explores the use of visual tension in various graphic design areas and works. It delves into the purposes of creating visual tension and in which instances it can be most effective, as well as most ineffective. It discusses the use and creation of visual tension with design hierarchy, rhythm and dynamics, symmetry and asymmetry, negative and positive space, color relationships, and typographical design. I will define visual tension, discuss its relevance and significance, and show informative examples. I'm using mainly secondary research in the form of textbooks and examples by other designers, but I have also included a …
Teaching Children How To Like Balanced Meals, Harumi Norasakkunkit
Teaching Children How To Like Balanced Meals, Harumi Norasakkunkit
All Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Other Capstone Projects
Growing up in Japan, balanced meals were always provided at home, at schools and even at restaurants. Unfortunately, children are not going to choose balanced meals from the start, so this habit has to be instilled by parents and by the educational system until it eventually becomes a personal preference for children. If children are simply given the choice to eat whatever they want from the beginning, it is unlikely that this preference will ever be developed. The emphasis of nurturing the habit of eating balanced meals, rather than just eating preferred foods, is what is particular about Japanese parenting. …
The Design Brief: Conceptual Tool For Visual Resolution Of Professional Design Problems, Jason Andrew Neal
The Design Brief: Conceptual Tool For Visual Resolution Of Professional Design Problems, Jason Andrew Neal
Theses and Dissertations
In this thesis I show how I have integrated the design brief concept with my art philosophy to help guide the exploration and visual resolution of three academic visual projects. The design brief is the most significant project management tool I have added to my design philosophy and production approach during my graduate studies. It has not changed the art I create, but rather has changed how I plan for and manage the production of my art. The brief consists of a series of questions that I can apply to all design decisions to make sure those decisions remain consistent …
Gaining Attention And Encouraging A Response: My Criteria For Successful Graphic Design., Kerry Scott Jenkins
Gaining Attention And Encouraging A Response: My Criteria For Successful Graphic Design., Kerry Scott Jenkins
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
As a graphic designer, my goal is to clearly express my clients' message to their intended audience. Based on the diversity of my clients and their products and services, finding a consistent style in my projects might be difficult, although there are usually some typical traits. With examples of my work and dialogue from leaders in the graphic design industry, I intend to point out a common thread that runs through all successful design projects, regardless of the projects' designer, era, or individual design elements (e.g., typography, copywriting, color, layout, imagery). Success comes from graphic design's ability to gain attention …
