Selfie, Phil Scorza
Selfie, Phil Scorza
Northwestern Review
This body of work is comprised of a series of portraits that the artist photographed during the summer of 2014.
For the project, he questioned each participant before shooting their portrait, asking them what their relationship is to the church and then asking them to describe their relationship with God.
Scorza’s interpretation of their answers to these questions and the conversations that followed informed how he needed to shoot their portrait. The resulting imagery, or portraits, is a visual representation of the inward self-reflection these individuals shared – a selfie.
Women In Engineering And Technology Barriers Project, Carrie Etherington, David Morgan
Women In Engineering And Technology Barriers Project, Carrie Etherington, David Morgan
Journal of Undergraduate Research
With women making up less than 18% of positions in engineering and technology fields, I feel there are many doors that still can be opened. My intention with this project was to identify what was acting as a barrier keeping women from these fields and to use euthenics (a science concerned with improving the human experience through the improvement of its environment) to make project development spaces often used by individuals in these fields places where more people are welcomed and comfortable. I specifically wanted to see if there were any physical factors that were keeping women from these fields.
2015 Japanese Field Project, Bradley Duke, Justin Kunz
2015 Japanese Field Project, Bradley Duke, Justin Kunz
Journal of Undergraduate Research
Alongside my mentor, I have been working to create an illustrated collection of Japanese stories. Originally, I had a team of 5 BYU students, that were to select a story, research it, and develop it into a cohesive and beautiful volume; we were also working with the Japanese Department so we could collaborate with the Kyoto University of Art and Design. Unfortunately, we were unable to collaborate with the Japanese University, and we had to narrow the project scope.

Iceland Through The Eyes Of William Morris: An Aesthetic Antithesis To England’S Industrial Revolution, Emily Snow, James Swenson
Iceland Through The Eyes Of William Morris: An Aesthetic Antithesis To England’S Industrial Revolution, Emily Snow, James Swenson
Journal of Undergraduate Research
The project for which I received an ORCA grant in the 2014-2015 academic year stemmed from my senior thesis project, a requirement for graduating with a bachelor’s degree in art history and curatorial studies, which I did in August 2015. The senior thesis project includes writing a 15- page research paper and giving a ten-minute formal. My topic of choice was the connection between William Morris’s textile designs c. 1875-1885 and his travels to Iceland in 1871 and 1873.
Food As A Cultural And Human Experience: Exploring The Italian Social Traditions Around Food Through Photography, Sarah Wight, Paul Adams
Food As A Cultural And Human Experience: Exploring The Italian Social Traditions Around Food Through Photography, Sarah Wight, Paul Adams
Journal of Undergraduate Research
Last June, I set out with camera in hand to explore the Italian social traditions around food. I wanted to capture what mealtimes mean to Italians, and how they differ from Americans. I planned to create a body of work that acts as a window into the Italian culinary culture.

Viewer-, Author-, And Ownership In The Work Of Andrea Zittel, Amanda M. York
Theses and Dissertations
Andrea Zittel invites others to collapse the distinctions between artist, viewer, and collaborator by interacting with her usable works. This thesis explores the process of interacting with Zittel's works, and how it affects viewer-, author- and ownership.
Trauma And Human Objecthood, Leslie Kelman
Trauma And Human Objecthood, Leslie Kelman
Theses and Dissertations
I am processing recent traumatic personal content in multiple media. This investigation dovetails with the work I was conducting previously, that of contemplating humans as objects continuous with their environment. This represents a reduced position in the biological hierarchy for humans, or a rejection of the hierarchy itself.

Designing A Residence In Sweden, Umeki Earl, Olivia Bufalini
Designing A Residence In Sweden, Umeki Earl, Olivia Bufalini
School of Human Sciences Research Showcase
The project was to design a home for the Nordstroms, a family who lived in Sweden. The challenge was to design a home for the family of four with a maximum square footage of 1100 square feet using the codes and space allocations required for another country. Meeting the needs of the client required much research. RESEARCH included studying the regional climate, the municipal building codes, and city regulations. Thorough research of building construction framing methods, insulation types and installation methods, site planning, materials and finishes were also essential for completing the project.

CRHR: Archaeology
Between February 8-11, 2016, selected artifacts from the Blackwater Draw National Historic Landmark (LA3324) were scanned in advance of a grant proposal to digitally aggregate the Clovis-era artifacts from the Clovis type site. These data were collected using a NextEngineHD running ScanStudioHD Pro, and were post-processed in Geomagic Design X 2016.0.1. All data associated with this project have been made publicly available (open access) and are accessible in Zenodo under a Creative Commons Attribution license, where they can be downloaded for use in additional projects and learning activities. Art Above 66° 33', Augustana College, Rock Island Illinois
2016-2017
66˚ 33' is the latitude of the Arctic and Antarctic Circles, and this exhibition considers these geographic areas as inspiration for the visual arts. In addition, it utilizes the visual arts as a mode by which to encourage viewers to more deeply engage with the planet’s most northerly and southerly regions. It considers the issues, history and environment of the regions, spanning media, process and subject – from the figural to the abstract, tactile to sound, analog to digital.
This exhibition was a collaboration with the Augustana Center for Polar Studies.

Nature's Humans, The National Juried Art Exhibition, Esther E. Randall
The Chautauqua Journal
Each year, the Giles Gallery at Eastern Kentucky University, in conjunction with the Chautauqua Lecture Series, mounts a juried art exhibition organized around that year’s theme. Ann Tower of Ann Tower Gallery served as juror for the 2010-2011 show (January 24 through February 18, 2011), Chautauqua National Juried Exhibition: Nature’s Humans. Both the selection of the artwork and the awarding of prizes were done through a blind process, meaning that the juror had no information about the individual artists or their background.
Art exhibitions organized around a theme present special problems for artists. Their restrictive nature excludes many artists …
