A Quest For Understanding Finding My Way Back, Juan Saenz Dec 2009

A Quest For Understanding Finding My Way Back, Juan Saenz

Theses and Dissertations - UTB/UTPA

My work reflects my place in nature and how through its documentation I have been given the opportunity to mend family ties. In my paintings I capture the essence of those things that bring me peace of mind and good health. The aim of my work is not solely for the purpose of self reflection but also an attempt to bring my viewers back to a different time in their lives. The following works are an example of my direction and experimentation.

The Return To Aztlan, Eliseo Moreno Dec 2009

The Return To Aztlan, Eliseo Moreno

Theses and Dissertations - UTB/UTPA

With this thesis I will focus on my Chicano artistic influences as well as on my life experiences as a third-generation Chicano growing up in the barrios of Browntown, “Tejas” (Brownsville, Texas) I will also examine in my paintings the Chicano identity; its culture, traditions, beliefs, and lifestyle. In this thesis like my artwork I will depict the myth of “Atzlan” via eras of the Chicano movement. I will start my writings with the mid-nineteen forties, the “Zoot Suit” era, which I believe is the original beginning of the Chicano movement, and advance to the nineteen sixties and seventies where …

Unseen, Sohee Kwon Nov 2009

Unseen, Sohee Kwon

Theses and Dissertations

Photography conveys informative data, aesthetic value, and a conceptual message very much like graphic design. In the hands of the photographer, the viewfinder of a camera becomes an editing tool. Editing by point of view, use of color and cropping determines a great deal about the communication made by imagery. In my creative project, I will explore photography as a means to generate form, concept, and content. As a result of this exploration, I expect to find new ways of approaching graphic design problems. My goal is to develop themes that combine aspects of photography and graphic design. Themes could …

Is architecture design? Where does it begin? Where does it end? With every iconic architect comes an iconic chair. Mies Van Der Rohe's Barcelona Chair, Aalto's Artek stool. Where is the furniture by Irish Architects? As Irish architecture has become internationally recognised what has happened to our furniture? Is furniture design oflittle interest to current Irish architects and will this change with the current market conditions?

Baccalaureate And Associate Degree Relationships Panel, Stephen Black, Charles Grieb, Sally A. Struthers, Sally Paronson Oct 2009

Baccalaureate And Associate Degree Relationships Panel, Stephen Black, Charles Grieb, Sally A. Struthers, Sally Paronson

Art and Art History Faculty Publications

A significant number of reasoned and documented projections indicate that two-year associate degree-granting institutions will play an increasing role in the preparation of students who continue and obtain baccalaureate degrees. The U.S. population is growing, but few new institutions are being built. Many individuals must obtain their collegiate education close to home. Economic pressures and credit-hour caps are focusing states and localities on articulation agreements and curricular continuity. This session will explore these issues as a basis for presenting and considering what administrators should know and think about as local decision-making occurs.

A Venus Of Wild Nights: The Female Nude In Paintings By Judith Linhares, Shannon Egan Oct 2009

A Venus Of Wild Nights: The Female Nude In Paintings By Judith Linhares, Shannon Egan

Art and Art History Faculty Publications

A nude woman sits on a pyramidal assemblage of logs in a pose reminiscent of Auguste Rodin’s The Thinker (1902) in Judith Linhares’s painting Up There (2003). With a delineated but transparent form, an absurdly large bumblebee feeds on enormous flowers at the base of the structure. The female figure oversees the fantastical scene like a queen bee atop a beehive. Linhares revisits the subject of a monumental female nude in her paintings (a traditional subject in the history of painting), and as such, these ‘‘queen bees’’ populate a whimsical but historical world. Her paintings are large, and even in …

Application Of Systems Engineering To Rapid Prototyping For Close Air Support, John M. Colombi, Richard G. Cobb Oct 2009

Application Of Systems Engineering To Rapid Prototyping For Close Air Support, John M. Colombi, Richard G. Cobb

Faculty Publications

Twenty-first century military operations have brought forth many new challenges for the Armed Forces of the United States. One such challenge is with new operating environments, where current systems are not always effective. While it is desirable to apply a systems engineering approach to best meet critical user needs, there may be a misconception that systems engineering requires a lengthy and detailed process not nimble enough for a rapid prototyping effort. This article describes how a classic systems engineering methodology was successfully tailored to the rapid development of potential material solutions to meet a critical operational need. Key observations are …

Curated Exhibit: Histological Colorations: Explorations Into The Human Form, Laura J. Hall

Posters and Presentations

This exhibit showcased mixed-media prints by artist Kathamann, inspired by her experience as a histology technician.
