The Mutamathil Type Style: Towards Free, Technology-Friendly, Arabetic Types, Saad D. Abulhab
The Mutamathil Type Style: Towards Free, Technology-Friendly, Arabetic Types, Saad D. Abulhab
Publications and Research
Efforts to adapt various Arabetic scripts to the machine are as old as the field of typography. But most of these efforts concentrated primarily on forcing the machine to duplicate the Arabetic handwritten forms. Others have practically advocated divorce from the calligraphic tradition rather than enrichment and reform. One reason why the few modern attempts to typographically solve the technology-induced Arabetic script problems had failed is that many typeforms (or many times just theoretical calligraphy style) was presented as replacement for the traditional ones rather than as optional working types. New “controversial” types should be made widely available for users …

A PowerPoint presentation was created to explain to the diverse audiences how the change from a traditional industrial arts "shop" class to a modular industrial technology lab at an intermediate school took place, …

Guides to Manuscript Collections
This collection consists of correspondence, photographs, a scrapbook, clippings, and ephemera related to Marion Vest Fors' murals which were painted in the James E. Morrow Library as part of the centennial celebration of Marshall College. The murals were removed for remodeling circa 1966 and remounted in 2005. The scrapbook was created by Fors about her creation of the mural to justify its emergence from storage and reuse in the Morrow Library. Also included in the collection are paintbrushes used in the painting of the murals.

112 pages : illustrations, portraits. "Wrongly bodied two" relates the stories of Jake, a contemporary white male imprisoned in a woman's body as he transitions from female to male and Ellen Craft, a 19th century black woman who escapes slavery by passing as a white man. While photographing Jake's transition, Sligh becomes conscious of society's psychological response to the transgressive act of changing one's identity. Recalling Ellen Craft's journey to freedom, Sligh re-examines her own fears of crossing the forbidden boundaries of gender, race and class."--artist's webpage. Decorator Or Narrator: A Contextualisation Of Slavic And Australian Pattern Making And Its Relationship To My Painting Practice, Iliana H. Jordanov
Decorator Or Narrator: A Contextualisation Of Slavic And Australian Pattern Making And Its Relationship To My Painting Practice, Iliana H. Jordanov
Theses: Doctorates and Masters
In this thesis, I will examine pattern making in art practice from two cultural perceptions, Slavic and Australian. Existing differences between the two cultural backgrounds will be used to debate how pattern is understood by the viewer or practiced by an artist in a particular chosen environment. The central argument focuses on pattern as a decorator and/or a narrator. I will examine the outcomes and changes in narrative pattern according to cultural context and exchange. By introducing Slavic pattern into contemporary (Australian) art practice, I examine how traditional cultural values and functions change. In discussing the processes of changes that …

Narrating Friendship: The Reciprocal Relationship Between J.B. Childers And Myself, James Thomas Engelmann
Narrating Friendship: The Reciprocal Relationship Between J.B. Childers And Myself, James Thomas Engelmann
Theses and Dissertations
For the past ten months I have explored the life of a deceased artist named Joseph Barley "J.B." Childers. In the graduate catalog Gregory Volk summarizes Childers as, "an alienated Korean War Veteran, who took up painting as a refuge from his troubles, and who also doesn't exist. Childers who is naturally right-handed, painted everything left-handed because of a war wound, and so Engelmann, who is left-handed, painted with his right hand, which is quite a limitation." Of course, there's more to the story than that and the writings that follow will explain many of my reasons for pursuing this …
