This study has been made in response to some of the problems observed in the general music program of the Logan City School District during the five-year period 1960-1965. As the number of classroom units increased during these years, the function of the elementary music supervisor was modified. Supervision as a "visiting music teacher" on a bi-monthly schedule gradually changed to supervision as a "teacher consultant" whose scheduled classroom visits were once a month or less.

During these scheduled visits, the classroom teacher planned and presented two or more music lessons for observation. Other scheduled contacts were either teacher-supervisor consultations, …

The story of Bluebear has been the center of many theatrical and musical works. From its mystery-shrouded origin, the legend and its principal characters have experienced numerous transformations. Charles Perrault’s tale, the first known published version of the story, served as a basis for all succeeding treatments of the theme, which have handled the various characters differently -- at times stressing Bluebeard, and at other times, the heroine. The theme of the Bluebeard legend has appeared in literature in delightful fairytales and in several dramas, both tragic and comic. Was his contribution primarily from his performing, composing or teaching? Were Mr. Clive's students instrumental in spreading any contribution offered by him?

As part of her responsibilities as music teacher at Our Lady of the Rosary School in Sabattus, Marie Jeanne Laurendeau (center) organized folk masses. She learned guitar chords along with her other students. Eddie LaGrange was the instructor. Two other adults, Roger Cadrin and Sister Rita Pelletier, studied with the class.

This study represents an effort to analyze the forms used by Flor Peeters in his Thirty Chorale Preludes on Well-Known Hymn Tunes, op. 68, 69, and 70. Through this analysis it has been found that Flor Peeters has systematically used certain devices in the treatment of the cantus firmus. Furthermore, these devices can be used as a criterion in developing a classification system for the chorale preludes, which logically divide into six groups or types.

The first type includes the chorale preludes in which the composition begins immediately with the first phrase of the chorale melody and continues without interruption …

In the teaching of woodwind instruments, the inherent differences of these instruments with regard to tone production, pitch characteristics and technical problems, make it imperative for the instructor to have an intimate knowledge of these factors. Through actual demonstration by the teacher, the student is made closely aware of the multiple difficulties involved in woodwind instrument performance. It was the writer's purpose in the recital to demonstrate the characteristic tone quality and basic technical facility on each of the major woodwind instruments in addition to some of the standard repertoire for these instruments.

A recent development in the field of church music has been the appearance, or better, the reappearance, of the hymn-of-the-week plan, that is, the plan whereby each Sunday or festival has its own particular hymn.
