Personality Similarities Between Female Alcoholics And Wives Of Alcoholics, Birgitta E. Qvistgaard-Welsh

It is hypothesized in this study that both alcoholic women and wives of alcoholics show, a) psychopathic tendencies and, b) a more highly feminine orientation to life than women in general. The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory "short form" was administered to twenty alcoholic women, twenty wives of alcoholics and twenty "normal" women picked at random from the general population. It was found that both alcoholic women and wives of alcoholics obtained significantly elevated psycho- pathic deviance (high Pd) scores. The wives of alcoholics obtained significantly elevated femininity (low Mf) scores; while the alcoholic women did not obtain a significantly low …

This study is an investigation of the attitudes expressed by the early church toward St. Peter. While most attempts to understand the origin of Rome's claim to authority based on Petrine primacy have dealt with attitudes expressed in documents, the approach here is to examine the evidence found in various types of artistic expression. It is hoped that the attitudes toward St. Peter which affected and may have caused the unique association between himself and Rome are clarified. This paper will consider autobiography from these various perspectives in search of a means of evaluation of autobiography in terms of the restrictions and potentials of the genre. The intention, the truth, the theme, or the formal value--alone-- are insufficient for a valid conception of the genre. Their interaction is what makes some autobiographies more than historical curiosities--what make them successful and enduring works of art. This study of American autobiography will focus on Sherwood Anderson's autobiography and autobiographical novel, A Storyteller's Story and Tar. Plactic is the material I chose to communicate my ideas. Named for its ability to be shaped, melted, bent, moulded, and extruded into an infinite number of forms, is one of two reasons I used it. The other is its concept is familiar to modern man and even a definition of him.

To make the communication bridge complete the stulptures are constructed to allow the viewer to take part in the final form. By moving the work, he is as involved in the concept, form, and material as I have been in making the piece.

The purpose of this thesis study was to explore various ways of producing creative photographs by manipulating an image as well as its plastic elements. The main areas of investigation included image and color separation, which produced new elements in the photographs. These elements synthetically created an image that was different from the original and had acquired a new meaning through the artist. This study should not be thought of as complete or final but infinite in its possibilities and extensions.

In 1964, a doctoral dissertation was written on the subject of maternal employment in relation to the structural state of anomie. The present study has attempted to duplicate the essential material to determine if the hypothesis presented would hold up under further investigation. Essentially, the hypothesis proposed was "employment is seen as a purposeful and ordered alternative for women to the state of anomie." The definition of anomie was taken from the concept developed by Merton, and more particularly, Durkheim as a state existent in the structure of a society; the normless situation that develops when there are no values …

Multi-Directional Ideas In The Duality Of A Living Work, Orlando Jimenez

This paper presents a series of ideas underlying the philosophy behind the creation of the author's works. The paper deals with the creator-viewer relationship, and the distinction that is commonly accepted as existing between the perception of the two, ascribing more value on the perception of one over that of the other. The conclusions were reached after acute observation of occurrences of everyday as a source of esthetic experience and after lengthy discussions with people involved in the creative process.

In discussing the prints and drawings chosen for this study, I wish to consider mostly subject matter and composition, giving less mention to technique. The three forms of printmaking used are intaglio, collagraph, and woodcut. A specific theme was not chosen for these prints. Since printmaking has been such a relatively new experience of expression for me, I chose to concentrate this study on the printmaking process.

This thesis is devoted only to that work considered completely investigated: a portrait/figure series of seven paintings. In addition, the series of works with which this thesis is devoted essentially follow this format: large areas of architectural space and color versus a natural object- -a portrait figure. A play or conflict was set up between these two things; the success of the play determined the success of the painting. Drawing as a creative mode of expression has maintained in some artistic circles a "puristic doctrine." "Puristic doctrine" in this case means the utilization of characteristic drawing implements and techniques (ie. pen, pencil, ink, charcoal, crosshatching, shading). In contrast to this "puristic doctrine" is what can be termed an "eclectic expression" in art.
