Leese Webster (1979) By Ursula K. Le Guin, Gareth B. Matthews
Leese Webster (1979) By Ursula K. Le Guin, Gareth B. Matthews
Picture Books
Leese was a spider, born in a palace throne room. Like other members of the “Webster” family, Leese knew how to spin an elegant and efficient web of traditional design. But then she started to produce webs of original designs like the flowers portrayed in the carpet and the huntsmen and hounds in a painting. Were these images pictures? Many animal species dance, adorn themselves, and build elaborate nests to attract mates. Can they be more and less aesthetically gifted? Authorities had Leese’s webs encased in glass and put on exhibit. Did that change their metaphysical status?

Hurricane Designed is a project that deals with advertising graphics, their forms and adaptations, and relates them to their environment. Herein is an explanation of the development and procedures of this project as it grew out of an interest in natural history and a pursuit of elegance in design. The result is this plan for a community identity based on environmental and historical perspective.

3. Sources And References For Suki, Matthew Lipman
Secondary School Curriculum
This sequential bibliography matches the 1978 edition of Suki page by page. It contains both sources—works that influenced Matthew Lipman in writing the novel, references to philosophical works he and Ann Margaret Sharp recommend to explore the novels’ philosophical themes, and brief commentary on them by Lipman.

2. Writing: How And Why (Instructional Manual To Accompany Suki, Matthew Lipman, Ann Margaret Sharp
Secondary School Curriculum
The aim of this program is to engage students in philosophical inquiry into aesthetics and related philosophical issues. The instructional manual includes short, accessible explanations of the philosophical concepts found in SUKI, the novel, as well as hundreds of exercises and discussion plans to prompt and assist the student's inquiry. As poetry is the primary aesthetic genre taken up in the novel, the explanations and activities in this manual offer numerous additional poems as objects of aesthetic inquiry. The manual also includes numerous activities that invite students to transform their thinking and dialogue into essays, poems and short stories, so …
A Sociological Analysis Of Criminal Aggression, William H. Rokes
A Sociological Analysis Of Criminal Aggression, William H. Rokes
Cal Poly Humboldt theses and projects
After having spent over twenty years as a Police Officer and dealing with deviant and criminally aggressive people on a first hand basis my curiosity was aroused. Why do some people react so aggressively to the same stimuli that other people react calmly to? Why, under the exact same circumstances will one person resort to physical violence and deadly force when the other person may only respond in a verbal manner? Thru these years of dealing with aggressive, psychotic, and deviant people I was assaulted with various weapons both lethal and non-lethal too many numerous times to mention here. Working …
Limitations Of The Middleman Minority Model Of Ethnic Enterprise, Dorlene C. Russell
Limitations Of The Middleman Minority Model Of Ethnic Enterprise, Dorlene C. Russell
Cal Poly Humboldt theses and projects
Minorities have evolved through wars of conquest, peace treaties, acts of violence, peaceful migrations and religious conversions. "The genesis of minorities must therefore be sought in the fact that territory, political authority, people, and culture only rarely coincide" (Wirth in Wagley and Harris, 1958:365). The type of minorityhood which is the topic of this paper is one which is closely akin to the concept of pariah people—people on the move who become minorities in their new social environment, yet adapt and prosper (if they survive) often surpassing a variety of other ethnic minorities in the society to which they have …

Chilean Realities: A Social Structural Analysis, William R. Burke
Chilean Realities: A Social Structural Analysis, William R. Burke
Cal Poly Humboldt theses and projects
The goal of this thesis is to review various theories of social structure and conduct an empirical analysis of the social structure of Chile. This will be done primarily through an examination of the roles and dynamics of the upper classes within Chile. My reasons for using the number of theories included within this thesis, finding some theories that do and some that do not fit the Chilean situation, will be for the purpose of shaping a total perception of the Chilean social structure. The analysis will end at V 1970.* Description and analysis of the upper classes will provide …

Group Reading: A Handbook For The English Teachers Training Course In Japan, Kazuko Takeda
Cal Poly Humboldt theses and projects
In order to more effectively train future teachers of English in Japan and thereby strengthen these attributes, I have written a handbook to introduce the basic concepts and techniques of group reading. The technique of group reading is widely used in American speech education. However, group reading is not well known or used in the English teaching world in Japan. Therefore, the handbook describes the basic principles of group reading and the fundamental elements of its practice in a classroom.
