An extensive review of the literature via books and articles offered insights on the effect of alcoholism on the family, I also attended conferences to gain further knowledge on the impact of alcoholism on all family members. This thesis examines issues encompassing the level of differentiation of self in an alcoholic family. I contend each family member implicitly agrees to block awareness of their personal truth as a short-term solution to reduce anxiety caused by any challenge to the status quo. This thesis examined issues and events related to the transformation of Indonesian society from 1950-1965. The argument was made that long term historical transformations have influenced the conditions of post-colonial Indonesia. In this light, the historical relationships between Indonesia and Holland were examined in detail. The worldsystems perspective was utilized to explain the social structures and social actions of the time period (1950- 1965). In doing this, several major premises of worldsystems analysis were underscored. In conclusion, suggestions for further research were also purposed.

This following material revolves around nature mysticism - experiencing aspects of the sacred and divine through deep, transpersonal experience with nature. It includes stories, ideas and exercises that introduce the reader directly to the "guru" in nature mysticism - nature itself. Its theme lies less on following specific cultural traditions than reestablishing direct, open-ended experience with nature toward genesis of fresh communion with the natural/divine.

The works in this exhibition were selected from works completed over the past year . Examples included oil paintings and photographs. The exhibition consists of seventeen works - ten oil paintings and seven photographs. The inspiration for the theme was from ordinary life. I tried to experiment with different expressions and techniques in the subject matter of the exhibition.

The oil paintings portray landscapes in a traditional manner and abstraction with a strong overall emphasis on rich color schemes and value contrast.

The seven photographs were to appear simple and quiet. I have done some photography before entering graduate work. …

The essays in this collection explore the many ways in which women writers have seen and dreamed the woman artist as a character in their works. In describing this character, her struggles and her visions, we as feminist critics run the risk of prescribing her, and yet failing to name her means failing to know her. We confront this difficulty not by defining the woman artist figure but by identifying many. I began this research project with an invitation from Mr. Terry Peetz, Chief Deputy Warden of Pelican Bay State Prison to design a research project, conduct research, and provide the California Department of Correction and Pelican Bay State Prison with the ability to monitor a long-term research project. Mr. Peetz was specifically interested in the Security Housing Unit as it "provides levels of control unparalleled in Department of Corrections History." Mr. Peetz proposed three areas of concern: 1. This model studies the effects of race, class and self-esteem on the development of juvenile delinquency. Factors of labeling effects, socio-economic status, and family composition were examined, and appear to correspond to involvement in delinquent behavior or the perception of possible delinquent behavior by others. Data was collected by using a content analysis of juvenile court files, a self-report survey administered to one hundred and ninety-five juveniles (involved and not involved in the system) from five different schools, interviews with juveniles and with administrators from the juvenile justice system. Family Coherence And Self-Esteem In Attention Deficit Disorder In Adults, Priscilla Gaines

This study examines the correlation between family coherence and self-esteem in adults identified as having Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD-R). Thirty-one individuals with ADD-R were matched by age, gender and residence with a control group of the same number. The experimental group was tested by the researcher individually on five instruments; the control group self-administered the tests. Conclusions demonstrate significant correlations between self-esteem and family coherence, as well as self-esteem and conflict, organization, independence and control in the family dealing with ADD. Coherence was defined as the respondent’s perception of his "fit" within the family. Gender was also shown to be …

This paper explores a singular chapter in Social Work, Appalachia and

American culture. Like many other aspects of Appalachian culture and politics, it is

primarily a tale of extended effort for what proved to be a lost cause. Like many

other chapters in the history of the social work profession, it is a tale of a bright

beginning and insufficient follow-through. It is an optimistic narrative of expected
