Sustainable Product Design Education Through An Appreciation Of The Low-Tech, Ceri Almrott Sep 2023

Sustainable Product Design Education Through An Appreciation Of The Low-Tech, Ceri Almrott

Conference papers

The paper presents a case study on the implementation of Low-Tech development model to teach sustainability in design-led programmes. The author argues that sustainability education should include not only the technical aspects of sustainability theory but also the underlying social aspects. The low-tech approach fits well in design-led modules since it encourages students to consider appropriate technological solutions for design projects while focusing on user behaviour to develop articulate solutions. The study explores the pedagogical approach of the content used to teach the design module and introduces a low-tech design workshop to aid students in implementing learning. The results of …

El Español En La Repúblida Dominicana, Orlando Alba Sep 2023

El Español En La Repúblida Dominicana, Orlando Alba

Faculty Publications

Pain Transformed: The Salutary Effects Of Suffering In Eighteenth-Century France, Anne Seul Sep 2023

Pain Transformed: The Salutary Effects Of Suffering In Eighteenth-Century France, Anne Seul

Arts & Sciences Graduate Student Theses and Dissertations

At the center of Pain Transformed lies the human body and the experience of suffering, particularly in regard to the unexpectedly beneficial side-effects of pain. I examine depictions of suffering in the literature of eighteenth-century France, a period best understood as one of spirited debate and marked innovation: by way of personal letters, literary and philosophical works, coffee shops, and salons, intellectuals interacted with one another’s ideas in an attempt to redefine society. My focus is on a series of works that merge preoccupations with the body—the physiological processes of how and why people feel, both physically and emotionally—with the …

Afl Students’ Perception Of Using Mnemonics As A Strategy To Enhance Their Vocabulary Acquisition And Retention, Elsayed Elsisi Sep 2023

Afl Students’ Perception Of Using Mnemonics As A Strategy To Enhance Their Vocabulary Acquisition And Retention, Elsayed Elsisi

Theses and Dissertations

Research in the field of language teaching and learning reveals that mnemonics is one of the most effective language learning strategies for vocabulary. Researchers like Rasiban, et al. (2019); Levin (1993); Zulfa (2019); Kayaaltu (2018) suggest that using mnemonics to learn new vocabulary has a positive effect on vocabulary retention and retrieval. Research also shows however that students’ perceptions may encourage or inhibit the usage of any learning strategy depending on their perceptions of its effectiveness. Hence the importance of detecting learner perception about any learning or teaching device. Despite the above there is limited research about students’ perceptions about …

These and many other questions receive careful treatment in "The Temple in the Book of Mormon: The Temples at the Cities of Nephi, Zarahemla, and Bountiful" by John W. Welch, which is available as a preliminary report on the order form in this issue of Insights. In final form, it will be included in Temples in the Ancient World, which will be published by Deseret Book and F.A.R.M.S. next spring.

Annual Dinner Builds Friendships

Insights: The Newsletter of the Neal A. Maxwell Institute for Religious Scholarship

Over 300 people gathered on October 30 to enjoy dinner, speeches, and association with friends old and new at the annual F.A.R.M.S. banquet. The featured speaker was Elder Dallin H. Oaks, who gave a major address on the historicity of the Book of Mormon. He described the strong position enjoyed by scholars willing to entertain evidence from both reason and faith, stressing the complexity and consistency of the ancient record. He challenged assertions of biblical criticism and pointed out that even if rational arguments about the historicity of the Book of Mormon should result in a draw (for lack of …
