The first few days of a new semester are anxiety-producing for all students. Our trans, nonbinary, and gender-nonconforming students come to our classes carrying all the standard student worries plus fears that they will be outed, misgendered, misnamed, excluded from examples, and/or unable to find convenient restrooms. So many of our normalized teaching practices, especially during introductory sessions, inadvertently exclude or objectify trans, nonbinary, and gender-nonconforming individuals or reinforce essentialized and binary gender norms. In 2020, the UCLA School of Law’s Williams Institute reported that 47% of LGBTQ adults were moderately or highly religious. This equates to 5.3 million religious LGBTQ adults in America. We cannot ignore this population.

When making the transition into young adulthood, many religious LGBTQ youth feel they must make a choice between their spiritual well-being or their queerness. As a university community interested in the success of the rising generation, we can provide support for religious queer young adults through understanding:

Many people are interested in generative AI tools such as ChatGPT as potential assistants. For this assignment, students in an introductory composition course will use ChatGPT (or a similar generative AI tool) as a brainstorming assistant to develop a research question for a specific project. Through a guided reflective process, students will 1) produce a well-formed, productive research question and a related set of keywords to guide their database research and 2) consider how generative AI tools such as Chat-GPT might be used productively and ethically as drafting assistants.

Partain details the use of the memoir's literary genre to process trauma resulting from emotional abuse incurred during childhood and adulthood. The paper includes comparisons of three published memoirs about abusive childhoods. Through my work in the Story Keepers, we look at things from the viewpoint of Eleanor. The context there is that she was raised primarily by her father, having a mother who, while loving and kind, was absent much of her life. She lived with her father, grandfather and uncle and was raised in a studious, loving and wealthy environment. Despite the numerous research studies promoting popular music education, many school districts need to implement an ensemble that teaches popular music. On average, only 24 percent of high school students participate in an ensemble throughout their high school careers, and music educators are trying to address this through modern bands. This qualitative, postpositivist, existential-phenomenological study identifies how the implication of modern bands can increase and retain music enrollment in secondary schools and analyzes the effects on other traditional instrumental and vocal ensemble enrollments. Past research has focused exhaustively on the motivational needs of older generational cohorts, while Gen Z receives minimal attention. Simultaneously, no research exists examining Gen Z’s centrality of religiosity or how their religiousness might affect motivational needs. This focus by research is crucial because the global number of Gen Z individuals now eclipses the current population of Baby Boomers and Gen X (Ajzen, 2020). Harrisburg University Research Symposium: Highlighting Research, Innovation, & Creativity

We plan to survey at least 100 students at Harrisburg university, where there is a very large gaming community, about their tendencies towards certain video game genres to collect the necessary categorical data. Separating the data into different genres serves to help our audience better visualize the disparity in representation between men and non-men in these genres and the studies based on them. By demonstrating the disproportion in the number of non-men versus men who play the popularly studied genres, we hope to shed light on how underrepresented non-men are in the video-game research community. The Famine Foods Co-op / Bluff Country Co-op Oral History Project collects the oral narratives of people associated with the member owned, cooperatively run natural foods grocery store in Winona, Minnesota. The Project was launched in 2022 by Michael William Doyle, a founding member of the Co-op and a retired History professor, in commemoration of the Co-op’s 50^th anniversary year. It is endorsed by the Co-op’s board of directors and sponsored by Winona State University's Darrell W. Krueger Library and the Winona County Historical Society.

We Can Work It Out: Forensic Musicology Methods, Joe Bennett

Faculty Works

In this chapter, I will argue that forensic musicology (FM) practice can answer this question by combining comparative musical analysis and repertoire research, contextualised within an understanding of how songwriters and composers create and how listeners hear. In doing so, I shall identify the methodological and phenomenological traps into which courts and juries can fall and suggest ways in which these can be anticipated and circumvented.
