Navigating The Soviet Experiment: Travels And Writings Of John Dos Passos And Edmund Wilson In Soviet Russia, 1928-1935, Robert Allan Winslow

The travel accounts of Soviet Russia by John Dos Passos (1896-1970) and Edmund Wilson (1895-1972) vividly demonstrate how Western writer-travelers were drawn into Soviet cultural experiments. Only rarely was this process one of literary influence. This thesis focuses on published travel writings by Dos Passos (In All Countries, 1934) and Wilson (Travels In Two Democracies, 1936), as well as journals, letters, and essays, in terms of Soviet cultural developments both writers noted as historically significant in shaping Western views of the Soviet state, and of the methods involved in building socialism and Communism.

It emerged in the twentieth century when teenagers became a powerful force of the economy in the 1930s and gained prominence in the sixties.” Various sources list common elements that make YA literature a distinct category. 1) YA books appeal to the interests of readers from ages twelve to eighteen. 2) YA books typically explore a teenage character’s entry into an unfamiliar “world.” 3) YA books usually feature a protagonist’s self-reflection on events that influence their forays into the adult world. 4) …

This thesis highlights the historical link between people with epilepsy (PWE) and demonic possession. The discussion traces origins of these views from antiquity to the contemporary era, foregrounding media and scholarship that emphasizes the negative perceptions of PWE developed through Christian teaching and imagery. It explores the question of whether the social isolation, abuse, and violence committed against PWE, through Christian faith healing practices such as exorcism, developed in relation to these stigmatizing views and whether these constitute a human rights violation in accordance with conventions put forth by the United Nations.

Animal Sentience

A growing number of non-human animal species are being seriously considered as candidates for sentience, but plants are either forgotten or explicitly excluded from these debates. In our view, this is based on the belief that plant behavior is hardwired and inflexible and on an underestimation of the role of plant electrophysiology. We weigh such assumptions against the evidence to suggest that it is time to take seriously the hypothesis that plants, too, might be sentient. We hope this target article will serve as an invitation to investigate sentience in plants with the same rigor as in non-human animals.

In the face of so many current challenges, teachers may feel overwhelmed at the thought of engaging in antiracist work, or they may be discouraged by seemingly slow progress. This article presents present a narrative of building and maintaining an antiracist research coalition across departments at our university. By grounding our work in the important work of key black scholars, we describe our process of naming whiteness, inviting collaboration, grappling with definitions, and even identifying a few small victories along the way. Collaboration with the Youth First Program of Saginaw increased students' engagement in eleventh-grade English. Students bonded with community partners, their teacher, and their peers in new ways which produced an environment of mutual respect and deeper learning. Students engaged in a debate project which garnered recognition from school administrators and community members, who were influenced to enact positive changes for the school community.

This article addresses the gap between ESL and creative writing in college-level ESL writing courses. In ESL classrooms, creative writing activities may be implemented sporadically, but rarely, if ever, prove part of a standard, long-term curriculum. However, the benefits of utilizing creative writing in ESL classrooms are manifold. Highlighted here are various short-term studies and personal accounts that examine smaller creative writing assignments used in college ESL classroom settings. In this article, authors argue that teaching young adult Gothic novels helps secondary students reflect on social justice issues, such as racism and sexism. We selected four young adult novels (The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein by Kiersten White, Dark Companion by Marta Acosta, Open Mic Night at Westminster Abbey by Mary Amato, and Black Spring by Alison Croggon) and paired them with Gothic texts (Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, Edgar Allan Poe’s tales, Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights, and Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre) to draw readers’ attention to issues of privilege and oppression . WPA entails writing instruction pedagogy, curriculum design, assessment, and faculty development pertaining to the teaching of writing. An item song is a provocative musical song and dance sequence that appears in Bollywood films that have little to no connection to the film’s plot, performed by an item girl for the male gaze. Contemporary Bollywood item songs have become highly contested social and political texts in the discourse surrounding rape culture in India. This research explores the socio-cultural context of rape culture in India and examines what makes item songs a popular and acceptable form of entertainment in a patriarchal, conservative society where sexualized violence against women is a major cause for concern.

Firstly, this thesis investigates the syncretistic religious nature of Bangladeshi mausoleums, along with the historical background of the Sufi mausoleums and the flourishment of this syncretistic religiosity. The study explores the contribution of Sufis to the spread of Islam in Bengal. It discusses how the liberal attitude of mausoleum enshrined Sufis toward their followers of diverse faiths patronized syncretism. This study aimed to examine the factors that contributed to the consolidation of democracy in the Republic of Korea (South Korea) during 1987–1993. The research employed the threshold definition of the consolidation of democracy as the only game in town and focused on South Korean nationalist sentiment that influenced the movement within and outside the National Assembly. วิทยานิพนธ์เรื่องการสร้างสรรค์นาฏยศิลป์ไทยในรูปแบบกีฬาลีลาศฉบับนี้ มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาแนวทางการสร้างสรรค์นาฏยศิลป์ไทยในกีฬาลีลาศ เป็นงานวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ โดยใช้วิธีการค้นคว้าทางเอกสาร การสัมภาษณ์ การสังเกตการณ์แบบมีส่วนร่วม และการทดลองสร้างสรรค์ผลงานทางนาฏยศิลป์ กีฬาลีลาศมีทั้งความเป็นศิลปะและเป็นกีฬาอยู่ในศาสตร์เดียวกัน ผู้วิจัยได้รับแรงบันดาลใจในการสร้างสรรค์ลีลาศที่มีการนำนาฏยศิลป์ไทยมาใช้ในการออกแบบ ได้แก่ จังหวะตะลุง จึงได้ทำการทดลองสร้างสรรค์นาฏยศิลป์ไทยในกีฬาลีลาศจำนวน 2 ประเภท โดยใช้การฟ้อนแบบนีโอล้านนาที่มีลักษณะการรำที่ช้าในจังหวะวอลซ์ เกิดขึ้นเป็น “ล้านนาวอลซ์” และ การเซิ้งทางภาคอีสานของไทยที่มีลักษณะการรำที่เร็วในจังหวะแซมบ้า เกิดขึ้นเป็น “ภูไทแซมบ้า กระบวนการออกแบบสร้างสรรค์ประกอบด้วยองค์ประกอบ 5 ส่วน ได้แก่ 1. แนวคิด 2. เพลงประกอบ 3. การออกแบบท่าเต้น 4. การออกแบบเครื่องแต่งกาย และ 5. การนำเสนอผลการสร้างสรรค์ ผลการศึกษาพบว่า แนวทางการสร้างสรรค์นาฏยศิลป์ไทยในกีฬาลีลาศคือ การใช้ลักษณะเด่นของนาฏยศิลป์ไทยได้แก่ การจีบ การตั้งวง และการกดเกลียวข้าง มาใช้กับส่วนบนของร่างกาย ส่วนการใช้เท้าและการใช้พื้นที่เป็นไปตามแบบลีลาศ ทั้งการฟ้อนแบบนีโอล้านนาและการเซิ้งทางภาคอีสานของไทย เหมาะสำหรับการออกแบบส่วนบนของร่างกาย การเต้นของวอลซ์และแซมบ้ามีลักษณะการใช้เท้าและขาเหมาะสำหรับการสร้างสรรค์ส่วนล่าง โดยผู้วิจัยเห็นว่ามีความเป็นไปได้ในการนำนาฏยศิลป์ไทยมาออกแบบสร้างสรรค์ในรูปแบบกีฬาลีลาศ และยังสามารถพัฒนาต่อไปได้อีก

ภาพยนตร์ศิลปะ เรื่อง มะลิ: เรื่องราวชีวิตประจำวันของกะเหรี่ยงพลัดถิ่นในกรุงเทพมหานคร คืองานสร้างสรรค์ทางศิลปะและสุนทรียะที่ศึกษาแนวคิดชีวิตประจำวันจากผลงานของ Henri Lefebvre ที่กล่าวถึงการวิเคราะห์ชีวิตประจำวัน รวมถึงแนวคิดคนพลัดถิ่นและวัฒนธรรมข้ามแดนที่มีวัตถุประสงค์ เพื่อสร้างความรับรู้ถึงชีวิตของชาวกะเหรี่ยงพลัดถิ่น และเพื่อสร้างสรรค์ผลงานภาพยนตร์ศิลปะ ซึ่งเป็นภาพยนตร์สั้นกึ่งสารคดี แบบติดตั้ง 3 จอ ซ้าย กลาง และขวา ที่โอบล้อมผู้ชม เสมือนเข้าไปอยู่ในมิติแห่งเรื่องเล่าของชาวกะเหรี่ยง โดยการบันทึกการสัมภาษณ์อัตชีวประวัติแบบเจาะลึกของชาวกะเหรี่ยงที่ทำอาชีพแม่บ้านในกรุงเทพมหานครจำนวน 2 คน แล้วนำมาลำดับภาพ จนได้เป็นภาพยนตร์ดังกล่าว จากการศึกษาพบว่า การดำเนินชีวิตของชาวกะเหรี่ยงเป็นผลผลิตจากโลกสมัยใหม่ โดยการดำเนินชีวิตนั้นอยู่ภายใต้เงื่อนไขของวัฏจักรเวลา ซึ่งมีความคล้ายคลึงกับการทำงานของคนไทยที่ดำเนินชีวิตภายใต้วัฏจักรเวลาด้วยเช่นกัน การเข้ามาของชาวกะเหรี่ยงพลัดถิ่นมีส่วนสำคัญต่อสังคมไทยที่ช่วยประคับประคองให้สังคมสมัยใหม่ดำเนินต่อไป

มนุษยสมัย (The Anthropocene) คือแนวคิดเกี่ยวกับยุคสมัยที่มนุษย์ได้เร่งให้เกิดความเปลี่ยนแปลงต่อธรรมชาติ สิ่งแวดล้อม และระบบนิเวศ จนส่งผลกระทบต่อสรรพสิ่งและการดำรงอยู่ของมนุษย์ ในยุคมนุษยสมัยนี้ มนุษย์กลายเป็นส่วนหนึ่งในองค์ประกอบต่างๆ ที่อยู่รายล้อมร่วมกันกับธรรมชาติ สิ่งนี้ได้นำไปสู่การถอดถอนมนุษย์ออกจากศูนย์กลาง การเปลี่ยนความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างมนุษย์กับสรรพสิ่งจากแนวตั้งเป็นแนวนอน ด้วยการอธิบายผ่านโครงสร้างเครือข่ายรากแง่งและศักยภาพในการเชื่อมรวม เพื่อให้เห็นการปะทะประสานกับสรรพสิ่งอื่นในระบบนิเวศ และการปฏิสัมพันธ์ระหว่างมนุษย์กับสิ่งที่ไม่ใช่มนุษย์ด้วยภววิทยาแนวราบที่บ่งบอกการเชื่อมต่อกันไปอย่างไร้จุดจบ จากแนวคิดดังกล่าว ผู้วิจัยนำเสนอผลงานสร้างสรรค์เพื่อขับเน้นการถอดถอนมนุษย์ออกจากความเป็นศูนย์กลาง ผ่านองค์ประกอบต่อไปนี้ 1) การขับเน้นสรรพสิ่งที่ไม่ใช่มนุษย์ (Non-Human) เป็นองค์ประธาน 2) สร้างความเชื่อมโยง (Linkage) ของเนื้อหาบนฐานของความแตกต่างเพื่อแสดงถึงการปฏิสัมพันธ์ระหว่างมนุษย์กับสรรพสิ่งในธรรมชาติในแนวราบโดยเชื่อมต่อกันไปอย่างไร้จุดจบ 3) การใช้โครงสร้างของเครือข่ายรากแง่งในการจัดวาง ประกอบด้วย การใช้ชิ้นส่วนแยกย่อย (Fragmentation) เพื่อเผยให้เห็นการปฏิสัมพันธ์ที่ทบทวีคูณ ความแตกต่างหลากหลาย และ การเกิดซ้ำ (Repetition) ที่สร้างความเปลี่ยนแปลงให้กับชิ้นส่วนแอนิเมชันในแต่ละครั้งของการวนลูป การปะทะประสานชิ้นส่วนแยกย่อยแต่ละชิ้นทั้งหมดบนจอภาพในช่วงเวลาเดียวกันทำให้เกิดบทสนทนาของแต่ละชิ้นส่วน

จิตรกรรมสื่อผสม : ร่องรอยของฉันและแม่ คือความพยายามสร้างสรรค์ผลงานทางศิลปะจิตรกรรมที่เผยเรื่องราว เรื่องเล่าเกี่ยวกับประสบการณ์ในอดีตของแม่และลูกสาว และการสะสมวัตถุทางความทรงจำต่าง ๆ ดังนี้ ผ้าถุงแม่ ภาพวาดในวัยเด็ก สมุด หนังสือเรียน และหนังสือนิทาน หนังสือการ์ตูน เพื่อถ่ายทอดความทรงจำส่วนบุคคลให้คลี่ออกในขณะที่ถูกโอบรัดด้วยสภาพสังคมวัฒนธรรมที่เปลี่ยนไปตามวันเวลา สิ่งเหล่านี้ยังได้นำเสนอความทรงจำส่วนบุคคลให้แปรเปลี่ยนเป็นความทรงจำร่วมแล้ว ก็ยังทำให้ชีวิตและความสัมพันธ์ของแม่และลูกสาวถักทอร่องรอยแห่งอดีตให้ปรากฏขึ้น ในขณะเดียวกันก็นำเสนอร่องรอยเหล่านั้นผ่านวัตถุความทรงจำดังกล่าว การประดิษฐ์สร้างใหม่ของวัตถุความทรงจำให้เป็นงานสร้างสรรค์ทางศิลปะ ได้นำเสนอภาพแทนประสบการณ์ในอดีตของแม่และลูกสาวให้ปรากฏอีกครั้ง และยังได้กระตุ้นเร้าผัสสารมณ์ให้รู้สึกถึงสิ่งที่ซึมซับอดีต แบ่งปันการรับรู้ร่วมต่อวัตถุทางความทรงจำ และสนองตอบต่อประสบการณ์ในอดีตที่เกิดขึ้นในความทรงจำให้ ทุก ๆ ห้วงขณะที่ชมงานสร้างสรรค์ทางศิลปะ โดยทั้งหมดนี้ ก็เพื่อเผยให้เห็นถึงความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างประสบการณ์กับความทรงจำ กล่าวคือ ประสบการณ์ คือ อดีต ในขณะความทรงจำคือสิ่งปรากฏในปัจจุบัน โดยมีวัตถุทางความทรงจำเป็นสื่อในการเชื่อมรอยต่อระหว่างอดีตและปัจจุบัน

การวิจัยนี้เป็นการวิจัยแบบผสมผสาน (Mixed Methodology) ประกอบด้วยการวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ (Qualitative Research) วิจัยเชิงปริมาณ (Quantitative Research) วิจัยเชิงทดลอง (Experimental Research) ร่วมกับการสร้างสรรค์อัตลักษณ์ต้นแบบผลิตภัณฑ์แฟชั่นไลฟ์สไตล์ มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อ 1) ศึกษาวิเคราะห์การลดมลพิษสิ่งแวดล้อมจากกากผักผลไม้สกัดเย็นเหลือทิ้ง เพื่อนำมาสร้างมูลค่าเพิ่มด้านอัตลักษณ์ผลิตภัณฑ์แฟชั่นไลฟ์สไตล์ 2) เพื่อหาแนวทางในการสร้างสรรค์นวัตกรรมสีย้อมจากกากผักผลไม้สกัดเย็นเหลือทิ้ง และ3) เพื่อหาแนวทางในการออกแบบอัตลักษณ์ผลิตภัณฑ์แฟชั่นไลฟ์สไตล์ที่ช่วยลดมลพิษสิ่งแวดล้อมด้วยนวัตกรรมสีย้อมจากกากผักผลไม้สกัดเย็นเหลือทิ้งสำหรับกลุ่มเจนเนอเรชั่นเอ็ม และแนวทางการตลาดผลิตภัณฑ์แฟชั่นไลฟ์สไตล์จากแนวคิดการนำกลับมาใช้ใหม่ สำหรับวางจำหน่ายในร้าน Healthy juice bar เขตกรุงเทพมหานคร ด้วยแนวคิดการนำกลับมาใช้ใหม่ (3R) จนขยะเหลือเป็นศูนย์ (Zero Waste) วิเคราะห์ข้อมูลด้วยเทคนิคเปเปอร์ดอลล์ดาต้าเซท(Paper Doll Data Set) เพื่อหาองค์ประกอบทางการสร้างสรรค์ผลิตภัณฑ์แฟชั่นให้สอดคล้องกับกลุ่มผู้บริโภค เครื่องมือวิจัยเพื่อเก็บข้อมูลจากผู้บริโภคกลุ่มประชากรคนเมืองเจนเนอเรชั่นเอ็ม (Generation M) อายุระหว่าง 29 – 44 ปี ในเขตกรุงเทพมหานคร คือแบบสอบถาม สถิติที่ใช้ในการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูล คือ การวิเคราะห์เชิงเนื้อหา ค่าความถี่ และค่าร้อยละ สรุปผลการวิจัยได้ว่า ปริมาณกากเหลือทิ้งจากร้าน Healthy Juice Bar ในเขตกรุงเทพมหานคร เฉลี่ยต่อวัน 10 – 50 กิโลกรัม งานวิจัยนี้ดำเนินการรับกากจากร้านเฉลี่ยต่อครั้ง 5 – 10 กิโลกรัม คิดเป็นร้อยละ 10 ของปริมาณกากที่ทิ้งจากกระบวนการผลิตน้ำ การวิเคราะห์ค่าสีพบว่าเส้นด้ายที่ย้อมร้อนส่วนใหญ่จะได้ค่าความสว่างและค่าความเป็นสีเหลือง และย้อมเย็นจะมีค่าความมืดและค่าความเป็นสีน้ำเงิน ภาพรวมของผ้าทอด้วยเส้นด้ายฝ้ายย้อมสีจากจากกากผักผลไม้สกัดเย็นเหลือทิ้ง มีความคงทนของสีต่อความคงทนของสีต่อแสงและการซักล้าง ความคงทนของสีต่อแสง การซัก การซักแห้ง เหงื่อ และการเปลี่ยนแปลงหลังการซัก อยู่ในระดับปานกลาง มีการตกติดสีเล็กน้อยถึงปานกลาง ในส่วนการสร้างสรรค์ผลงานต้นแบบจากแนวคิดการนำกลับมาใช้ใหม่ (3R) จนขยะเหลือเป็นศูนย์ (Zero Waste) เพื่อช่วยลดมลพิษสิ่งแวดล้อม มีแนวทางความเป็นไปได้ว่าสามารถเพิ่มมูลค่าให้ขยะที่เหลือทิ้ง และสร้างอัตลักษณ์ให้กับผลิตภัณฑ์แฟชั่นไลฟ์สไตล์ในกลุ่มผลิตภัณฑ์ใหม่ และนำไปสู่อุตสาหกรรมแฟชั่นได้อย่างยั่งยืน ผู้บริโภคกลุ่มคนเมืองเจนเนอเรชั่นเอ็มมีความพึงพอใจในระดับมากที่สุด ต่อการออกแบบผลิตภัณฑ์สินค้าแฟชั่นไลฟ์สไตล์ ภายใต้ตราสินค้าพาธ วอร์โดบ (PRATH wardrobe) ที่ใช้แนวคิดการนำกลับมาใช้ใหม่ (3R : …

This study investigated the beliefs, attitudes, and motivations towards English language learning among Thai and Chinese undergraduate students at Dhurakij Pundit University (DPU). Employing a mixed-method approach, this research utilized both quantitative and qualitative methods to discern and compare these students' experiences. The quantitative phase involved 332 students, selected through stratified random sampling, who completed comprehensive questionnaires based on a five-point Likert scale. The qualitative phase included 31 purposefully selected participants from the initial pool for semi-structured interviews. The participants consisted of 60 L1 Mandarin-speaking learners of English divided into two groups according to their English proficiency levels, i.e., the intermediate and the advanced levels.
