In May 2023, a trial excavation was conducted in Nahal Talia (Permit No. A-9589/2023; Map ref. 202351-601/561296-546), prior to the construction of a new residential neighborhood in ‘Ar‘ara in the Negev. The excavation, on behalf of the Israel Antiquities Authority and funded by The Authority for the Development and Settlement of the Bedouin in the Negev, was directed by I. Peretz, with the assistance of Y. Alamor (administration), A. Montagu (surveying, photography, and drafting), A. Tamir (district archaeologist and acting excavation director), S. Talis and D. Eisenberg-Degen (counseling), Y. Abadi-Reiss (flint), I. Azulay (plans) and laborers from the Palestinian Authority.

Typed manuscript of “Children of Lead,” published in 1939 as South of Joplin: Story of a Tri-State Diggin’s (W.W. Norton). This manuscript was donated by Lallah Davidson Blanpied to Pittsburg State University in 1975. This copy belonged to famous literary agent, Marion Saunders, who was also Margaret Mitchell’s agent for Gone With the Wind. This copy does show some changes from the published version, notably in the Introduction, and the original title.

Edward LeRoy Simpson was born in Miami, Oklahoma in 1934, to Eddie and Ada Simpson. From 1952-1956 LeRoy attended the Kansas State Teachers College (now Pittsburg State University). He played several positions on the football team, including quarterback, and lettered all four years. He went on to receive a master’s degree from the Kansas State Teachers College in 1961. The Black Jack, Kansas Scrapbook includes newspaper clippings telling the account of the battle and town of Black Jack, as well as some history of Black Jack-area families including O’Neil, Von Tries, Black, and Pearson. Most clippings are from the Wellsville Globe and the Ottawa Herald. Photographs are included.

The Battle of Black Jack was the first armed conflict between proslavery and antislavery forces in the United States. Roger O’Connor (1941-2006) ran a bookstore, Mostly Books, in Pittsburg, Kansas, selling books, papers, and photographs. He previously had bookstores in Lawrence, Kansas and Omaha, Nebraska before coming to Pittsburg. He previously had attended Pittsburg State University, where he received a master’s degree. Bob Black was born in 1943 in Nashville, Tennessee, to John and Mary (Collins) Black. Bob graduated from Ottawa High School (Kansas) in 1961 and went on to earn a Computer Science degree from Kansas State University in 1972. Resumen: Esta investigación transdisciplinaria, que abarca estudios de arqueología, antropología, semiótica y estética, se propone analizar la iconografía de «la llama» en el arte Tiwanaku. Múltiples representaciones de camélidos se encuentran pintadas, grabadas y tejidas en diferentes tipologías de materiales ceremoniales tiwanakotas, reflejando su importancia en la cosmovisión de esta antigua cultura. A través de este estudio iconográfico e iconológico se pretende mostraría como las imágenes de camélidos estaban incluidas en un conjunto de símbolos mágico-religiosos y de poder, manifestando el rol central que estos animales tuvieron para el desarrollo económico y cultural de la sociedad tiwanakota. Resumen: El presente trabajo muestra el panorama multifacético de colecciones clasificadas como etnográficas y que son controvertidas por sus contextos de adquisición y adscripciones alternativas en el trascurso del tiempo. El estudio se centra en cinco casos del Museo de las Culturas de Basilea (Suiza) del Museo Etnológico en Berlín (Alemania) y de los Museos Nacionales de la Cultura del Mundo en Gotemburgo, (Suecia) que los autores han acompañado de cerca en los últimos años y que involucran procesos de restitución. En 1902, el Departamento de Etnografía del Museo Nacional de Hungría, antecesor del Museo de Etnografía, adquirió una colección de ciento tres objetos arqueológicos costarricenses del Museo de la Corte de Viena. Los objetos habían pertenecido originariamente a un conjunto mayor (de cuatrocientos cincuenta), comprados al director del Museo Nacional de Costa Rica por Karl Wahle, el cónsul austrohúngaro en San José, quien posteriormente los donó al museo de Viena. Una cuarta parte de las piezas, hallazgos arqueológicos de cuatro cementerios en las inmediaciones de la capital costarricense, llegaron a Budapest por intermediación del diplomático húngaro Bela Rakovszky, quien en …
