Saved Babies, Dead Doctors: Settler Colonial Anxiety And Strategic Rhetorics Of/In The Anti-Abortion Cultural Narrative, Cassidy Ellis
Saved Babies, Dead Doctors: Settler Colonial Anxiety And Strategic Rhetorics Of/In The Anti-Abortion Cultural Narrative, Cassidy Ellis
Communication ETDs
In this dissertation I identify and analyze the rhetoric that creates the anti-abortion cultural narrative and locate its toxic secrets by exposing the logics and ideologies the secrets obscure and sustain, and finally, ascertaining the strategic rhetorics that enable the narrative’s power and centrality. There are two primary arguments proposed in this dissertation. First, I argue that settler colonialism is the primary toxic secret nestled just beneath the surface of the anti-abortion cultural narrative. It is the secret that animates and sustains the narrative in service of maintaining settler colonial social order via control and maintenance of the population. Second, …

Teaching French Civilization And Culture Through A Multicultural Perspective In The Classrooms Of French Language Students In Jordanian Universities, Samer Ali Al-Hammouri
Teaching French Civilization And Culture Through A Multicultural Perspective In The Classrooms Of French Language Students In Jordanian Universities, Samer Ali Al-Hammouri
Association of Arab Universities Journal for Arts مجلة اتحاد الجامعات العربية للآداب
With the advent of the communicative methodology, the goal of learning and teaching foreign languages is to acquire a communicative skill aimed at making students able to behave appropriately when communicating with speakers of these languages. This communicative skill is not limited to grammatical or linguistic aspects, but also includes cultural elements that seem to be of great importance. Through our experience, it seems to us that the practices of learning and teaching French as a foreign language, in the Jordanian university context, do not give an important place to cultural elements. This study aims to encourage teachers to focus …
The Peculiar Use Of Punctuation In A.R. Ammons' "So I Said I Am Ezra", Malek Zuraikat, Faisal Rawashdeh
The Peculiar Use Of Punctuation In A.R. Ammons' "So I Said I Am Ezra", Malek Zuraikat, Faisal Rawashdeh
Association of Arab Universities Journal for Arts مجلة اتحاد الجامعات العربية للآداب
In his poem "So I Said I am Ezra," A.R. Ammons employs a peculiar nopunctuation strategy to represent his speaker's unique terms of association with the natural elements. This kind of punctuation marks, we argue, allows for two opposed, yet interdependent, interpretations of the poem. While the one interpretation underscores the speaker's progressive but eventual isolation from Nature, the other explains his growing sense of belonging and resulting mutuality. We trace this ambivalent attitude to Nature in the poem's appropriation of the Romantic mode of poetic meditation and showcase how a twofold standpoint for thematic interpretation can be yielded by …

A Critical Reading Of Nawal El Saadawi’S Woman At Point Zero, Sawsan Al-Darayseh
A Critical Reading Of Nawal El Saadawi’S Woman At Point Zero, Sawsan Al-Darayseh
Association of Arab Universities Journal for Arts مجلة اتحاد الجامعات العربية للآداب
Women all over the world, and Egypt specifically, have been looked upon as second-class citizens for a long time in comparison to men. However, this paper argues that it is unethical for feminists, specifically here Nawal El Saadawi, to discuss this issue in an extreme way where the truth is lost. Hating men and holding them wholly at fault for the plight of women while giving alibis to and even praising women for their selfdestructive decisions is not a solution. The paper critically reads El Saadawi's Woman at Point Zero, discussing the very methods and elements that El Saadawi uses …

Association of Arab Universities Journal for Arts مجلة اتحاد الجامعات العربية للآداب
Historical writing is considered an important part in historical studies. In fact, historical writing deals with how historical narratives are approached and exposes historians’ tendencies. The crusades and the conflicts between the Crusaders and Muslims are important historical periods that are still worth investigating further because of distortions and misrepresentations definging these periods. The study of Tarikh Alzaman and its methodology by Gregory Bar Hebraeus (known as Ibn Al-Malati or Ibn Al-ʿIbrī, 1226-1286 AD/ 623-685 H) is one of the most important studies. The problem of this study lies in attempting to understand the aspects of that period from the …

The Lammia Of Amr Ibn Sha's And The Mu'llaqa Of Imru' Alqays: An Opposition, Sahar Jadallah
Association of Arab Universities Journal for Arts مجلة اتحاد الجامعات العربية للآداب
This study reveals Amr Ibn Sha's' (Lammia) in which he followed Imru' al –Qays' popular Mu'allaqa in a prescribed way which is very close to that of an opposition, and that is due to the content of its ingredients, However it also contained three verses in which Amr Ibin Sha's is proud of himself over Imru' al – Qays for murdering his father, and for the victory of Bani Asad over Kinda. And so, if it weren't for these three lines it would have been considered a complete opposition, and this is evidence that opposition deeply exists, if permitted, in …

Hebron University Research Journal-B (Humanities) - (مجلة جامعة الخليل للبحوث- ب (العلوم الانسانيه
Many religious duties in Islamic sharia depend on the lunar calendar. In the early times, Arabs did not have a means to determine the beginning of a new lunar month other than sighting the new crescent. Hence, Prophet Mohammad – peace be upon him – commanded Muslims to observe Ramadan and start fasting when the sighting of the new crescent is confirmed. The early scholars of Islam followed the tradition of determining the beginning of a new lunar month by moon sighting and opposed using astronomical calculation for this purpose. This is mainly because early Muslims did not have the …
