This research is titled On the Aesthetics of Resistance in Afro-German Theater: A Case Study of Olumide Popoola's Also by mail. The main purpose of this research is to show how Afro-German theater resists through creative processes on a symbolic and aesthetic level to address crucial challenges faced by the black minority in Germany. The play Also by mail by Nigerian-German playwright Olumide Popoola is an interesting example of this, as it is situated at the intersection of gender, race, and identity. Popoola’s engagement with the aesthetics of resistance provides a way to understand how Afro-German activism today uses …

Paige Mulick Bfa Dance Graduating Presentation, Paige Mulick
Honors Theses
Paige Mulick’s Graduating Presentation/Honors Thesis was created to be a piece that explored recurring dreams and built a dream on stage. Mulick developed this piece beginning with a concept, auditioning dancers, developing choreography, designing costumes, developing a lighting design, and rehearsing the piece for multiple months before it was performed on stage. As supporting research for this choreographic project, Mulick drew on her personal experiences, the experiences of her dancers, and readings from texts about the science and history of dreams. In addition to her work in choreography, Mulick took on the roles of Production Coordinator and Schedule Coordinator for …

The Bathers takes inspiration from the late 19th-century impressionist painter Paul Cézanne and his series of paintings known as Bathers. Cézanne believed in the harmony between art, emotion, and nature. This piece explores the healing powers of nature and how it reflects the human experience, beauty, ugliness, and inner peace. The Bathers endure a journey to rebirth by ways of nature, traversing through moments of desertion, cleansing, surrender, ecstasy, and freedom.

Still Lending You The World: The Toledo Lucas County Public Library In The 21st Century, Cade Clem
Honors Projects
This research paper focuses on how the Toledo Lucas County Public Library (TLCPL) has adapted to the 21st century, with an emphasis on the impact of digital materials and the Internet. This paper looks at these changes primarily through three lenses: official policies, services and programs, and internal culture. This paper uses quantitative data to determine if TLCPL has maintained overall growth in areas such as number of cardholders, customer counts, circulation, computer usage, and program attendance. These numbers show that, while not always maintaining growth, TLCPL has adapted quite well to the 21st century, bringing in record high numbers …
God Our Neighbor: Discerning Our Calling By Discovering God's Life In Our Neighborhood, Wayne D. Beason Ii
God Our Neighbor: Discerning Our Calling By Discovering God's Life In Our Neighborhood, Wayne D. Beason Ii
DMin Project Theses
This April 2023 Doctor of Ministry project thesis at Lipscomb University presents the results of research completed with congregants and neighbors of Parkside Church of Christ in Dearborn Heights, MI. The research question driving this project is: How might a congregation’s missional identity be reshaped by attentiveness to God’s activity among their neighbors? The missional activity of the Holy Spirit makes God’s future accessible in the present both within and beyond the church; thus, the Spirit is discernible in the particularity of a neighborhood. For this reason, the local neighborhood functions as an arena of the Spirit’s activity, a source …
Fragmented Hours: The Biography Of A Devotional Book Printed By Thielman Kerver, Stephanie R. Haas
Fragmented Hours: The Biography Of A Devotional Book Printed By Thielman Kerver, Stephanie R. Haas
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
As the most richly illustrated and widely-owned texts of the late medieval and early modern eras, books of hours are essential to the study of art, religion, and the history of the book. Fragmented and damaged books, while perhaps less coveted, are of particular value to researchers for what they may reveal about their owners as well as the changing meanings of devotional texts and images over more than five centuries of use. This thesis explores the compelling biography of a damaged book of hours preserved in the University of Florida Library. The book has undergone such extensive alteration prior …

Figures Du Père Et Parenté Littéraire Dans La Vie De Saint Alexis Et Le Livre De La Cité Des Dames, Marie Bellec
Vernacular: New Connections in Language, Literature, & Culture

The Holocaust Experienced By Jewish Women, Ra-Quelle Parker
Undergraduate Research Competition
We have plenty of information on The Holocaust from the male point of view, such as Elie Wiesel, Primo Levi, and Viktor Frankl, but there is barely any information on the female point of view during The Holocaust beyond the point of Anne Frank or Ida Fink. This study shows the horror in the camps that women had to face. Women feared sexual harassment, among other horrible treatment in different camps. The sole purpose of this paper is to find more information on Jewish women’s experience in the ghettos and concentration camps and to understand the female victims of The …

"A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte" is an iconic painting by French artist Georges Seurat that features a group of elegantly dressed Parisians spending a leisurely Sunday afternoon on the banks of the Seine. While the painting is widely celebrated for its technical brilliance, it is also notable for the way it reflects the social norms and cultural values of 19th-century France. One such norm was the objectification and exploitation of Black women's bodies, exemplified by the tragic story of Sarah Baartman, a South African woman who was paraded across Europe as a spectacle because of …
