The goal of Exploding Aliens and Other Offspring is to capture my specific surrealist world point of view provided by the closed-knit crazy community I grew up in alongside my love for cartoonish melodrama. The collection progresses in order of images and the evolution of such themes as the venture from childhood to adulthood, societal obligations, religion, parenting, death and the hereafter.

In my art practice, collecting materials from personally significant locations has become a way to subtly reconnect people with places, nature, natural materials and processes. I produce well-made objects, with the end goal of allowing the viewer to feel and interact with traditional forms of beauty through craft, which is increasingly rare in our mechanized world. Raw materials are a direct link to nature and earth, a link which people in general can benefit from in essential ways. 落葉哀蟬曲：珍妃之死·香草美人·家國之喻, Shengqing Wu

庚子之變是近代中國創傷性經驗的歷史關捩點，也引發了悲情書寫的機制。本文討論世紀之初一群在京文人的詩詞寫作，特别圍繞兩個相關的個案：對珍妃之死的回應，以及王鵬運、朱祖謀與劉福姚等篝燈酬唱而完成的兩部詞集《庚子秋詞》與《春蟄吟》。各種幽微曲折的心思，託喻性的整體風格，鑲嵌繁複的典故，共同成就了那一時期的詞學風貌。集體的唱酬進一步劃分或强化了知識群體，爲有共同文化信念的文人提供表達的機緣、情感慰藉的場域。在這類高度風格化的書寫中，女性的符號成爲其中最活躍的修辭要素。本文探討創傷、隱喻、女性身體與家國想像這些交相糾結的命題，以及托喻作爲一種古老的“詩用”行爲對於晚清士大夫階層的意義。

蘇軾前身故事的真相與改寫, Gang Zhu, Huiqing Zhao

北宋禪僧惠洪最早記録了蘇軾前身是雲門宗禪僧五祖師戒的故事。他不僅構建了這個故事，也一手記録了五祖師戒形象的所有元素。惠洪所爲可能與其祖師黄龍慧南叛出雲門宗這一事件相關，他通過建構蘇軾前身故事及五祖師戒形象，來維護黄龍慧南的聲名，表明其並非背叛雲門宗，而是真正傳承雲門法脈。後來蘇軾前身故事被世俗社會引入戲曲小説，並將其與紅蓮故事拼合，展現出與士大夫話語不一樣的面貌，成爲禪宗在世俗社會的傳法手段。五祖師戒在小説戲曲中被訛變爲五戒禪師，這個新形象成爲流傳最廣的蘇軾前身樣態。

遞藏·題跋·複製：蘇軾《洞庭春色賦》、《中山松醪賦》書跡, Lo-Fen I

蘇軾《洞庭春色賦》、《中山松醪賦》合卷書於北宋哲宗紹聖元年(1094)，白麻紙，全幅縱28.3釐米，横306.3釐米，加上後人的題跋，總共全長450.3釐米，是篇幅最長的蘇軾書跡，現藏吉林省博物院。本文分析《洞庭春色賦》和《中山松醪賦》的書寫與複製情形，整理歷代庋藏流轉脈絡，以及九位題跋者的十三則題跋。研究發現：蘇軾多次書寫此二賦，尤其是寫《中山松醪賦》予友人，彌補個人作品出版受限制的困境。後世的石刻和法帖促進此二賦的傳布。乾隆皇帝至少兩次臨摹《中山松醪賦》，四度題寫《洞庭春色賦》、《中山松醪賦》合卷，其中兩次是在蘇軾寫《中山松醪賦》的河北定州，頗具深意。

《金石萃編》續補考, Cheng-Jie Zhao

王昶的《金石萃編》將目録、集釋與按語匯爲一編，成爲清代金石學上的劃時代的著作，後人仿效其體例，續補著作多達二十餘部。《金石萃編》與其續補著作共同構建了清代金石學的壹個學術傳統，這種學術傳統是以匯集前人考證題跋爲中心，辨析源流、考索史實，對後代金石學著作的編纂起到了典範作用。考察《金石萃編》之續補，一方面可以利用金石與文獻互證的方法，辨析《金石萃編》的文字或史實錯誤，另一方面，亦可探究《金石萃編》及其續補著作在清代金石學上的學術意義。

中古時代的《漢書》注釋傳統, Jun Chen

中古時代《漢書》地位頗高，堪與“五經”相提並論。《漢書》經典地位的確立，除了其文本自身所具有的經典特質以外，傳授和注釋的作用也非常重要。東漢中期是《漢書》學的發軔期，班固之妹班昭與馬續續補《漢書》，教授《漢書》於馬融，並爲班固《幽通賦》作注，可謂《漢書》學第一人。從東漢末年的服虔《漢書音訓》、應劭《漢書音義》到西晉時期的晉灼《漢書集注》、臣瓚《漢書集解音義》，再到唐代初年的顔師古注，《漢書》注釋經歷了由“音義”體到“集注”體、由《漢書》學南北分流到《漢書》顔注集其大成的發展過程。

國圖藏清陳澧《學思録》稿本初探, Chao-Ying Guo, Yu-Cheng Wang

國家圖書館藏陳澧《學思録》稿本由原北平圖書館而來，是高隱芩所藏陳澧稿本中的部分文稿，該稿本包含有陳澧論陶淵明、清朝學者、《周易》、《論語》、朱熹等總計五部分内容。學界一直對高氏所藏此部分文稿的下落不甚明了，所以國圖藏陳澧稿本《學思録》的價值不言自喻。

《史記·淮陰侯列傳》與《春秋》書法 : 以比事見義爲例, Kao Ping Chang

司馬遷私淑孔子，《史記》典範《春秋》。司馬遷著成《史記》，猶孔子作《春秋》，“於定、哀之際，則微”，《司馬相如列傳》所謂“《春秋》推見至隱”。所以出以微辭隱義者，觸忌犯諱故也。今以《史記·淮陰侯列傳》爲例，揭示司馬遷發揮史德之真實，運用《春秋》書法，顯揚韓信之忠貞不二，爲勇略震主、功蓋天下之韓信平反冤獄。司馬遷運用《春秋》比事屬辭之書法有三：一、據事直書，具文見義，即“盡而不汙”之書法，是實録、信史之基調。清梁玉繩《史記志疑》極辯信無反狀十一事，史公依漢廷獄案將誣詞叙入傳中，比事屬辭，而其冤自見。二、詳略重輕，筆削見義：筆削之義，則體現於詳略、重輕、異同、有無諸書法。漢中之對、安邑之襲、背水之戰、濰水之陣，爲勇略震主、功蓋天下作見證，故較詳較重。武涉與蒯通之遊説，前較略、較輕，後偏詳、偏重。重輕、詳略，皆有義可求。韓信之回應武涉與蒯通，屬辭雖有微殊，而曰豈可鄉利背義，雖死不易，是其所同。三、微婉顯晦，互見示義：“太史公曰”之微辭隱義，當前後相絜，彼此相形。如信與陳豨，聯手謀反；韓信夙願，止在封侯；韓信功勳，可比周、召、太公之徒；天下已集，乃謀畔逆等等：皆所謂忌諱書寫，最見《春秋》書法。

陶淵明的文體選擇及其文學史“位置”, Te Chen

陶淵明的文學史地位並不“一帆風順”，他在當時和稍後並不曾被普遍推重，趙宋以降則聲譽日隆。陶淵明的文學史命運，和他的文體選擇息息相關。作爲一個晉宋之際的文人，陶淵明留存的辭賦很少，且皆爲模擬之作，只能展現其文章才能。但陶詩恰與陶賦形成一鮮明對比，陶淵明經營了一個廣闊的“詩世界”，含攝生平、交遊、思想諸方面。縱覽魏晉文學史，陶淵明是第一位單獨憑藉詩歌就可奠定文學史崇高地位的“詩人”。詩賦之外，陶淵明的文章也旁涉了唐宋方有的“散文”境界。這一獨特的文體選擇，決定了陶淵明的文學史“位置”。

“三七之厄”與兩漢之際經學思想之關係 : 以路温舒、谷永、王莽爲中心, Shaohua Sun

從“三七之厄”推算思想看，路温舒提出的“漢厄三七之間”，主要涉及天文與曆數；谷永在路温舒基礎上，又增加了《周易》思想；王莽的“三七之厄”，主要與《周易》、讖緯、五行有關。從三人“三七之厄”思想的變化及其與經學之關係看，路温舒以董仲舒《公羊春秋》説災異，是西漢初年流行做法；谷永説災異，較爲深入地援引各種經學文字，並且在西漢通行經文文字基礎上，開始引用古文經文字；王莽的“三七之厄”説，除了繼續以古文經學説災異，還採納了齊人甘忠可的讖緯學説。劉秀時期提出的“四七之際火爲主”，仍然沿襲的是王莽“三七之厄”的推算方式。二者皆爲王莽代漢、劉秀代莽的輿論工具。

日本僧人《世説新語》注考論 : 江户學問僧之一側面, Bowei Zhang

明代王世貞删改劉義慶《世説新語》和何良俊《語林》而成《世説新語補》，此書在日本江户時代甚爲流行，並且出現了大量的注釋本。在這一注釋群體中，有一批僧人特别引人注目。本文在全面把握相關史料的基礎上，勾勒出江户時期僧人《世説》注的整體面貌，揭示了僧人《世説》注的貢獻和特點，對其學術淵源作了更爲準確的釐清。希望透過這一研究，提請學術界對江户學問僧之成就與貢獻的注意，並再次呼籲將東亞漢傳佛教的文獻當做一個整體來處理，逐步打破以國别爲單位的佛教文獻、思想、信仰的研究。

私立嶺南大學蠶絲科發展史論, Chao Jiang, Quan Xia

蠶絲業在廣東近代經濟中具有舉足輕重的地位。20世紀二三十年代，私立嶺南大學蠶絲科根據廣東蠶絲業發展現狀，開展調查研究，展開蠶病治理與預防，改良蠶種培育與育蠶及桑種培育與栽桑技術，重視成果技術推廣，致力於廣東蠶絲業的發展，開展了一系列富有成效的活動。嶺南大學蠶絲科的發展既是美國改良廣東蠶絲的迫切需要的推動，又離不開廣東發展經濟的客觀要求，也是華人致力於嶺南大學“中國化”持續努力的結果；在促進蠶絲技術的改進，提高蠶絲品質的同時，增强了廣東蠶絲的市場競争力；也打破了傳統的蠶絲生産觀念，促進了蠶農對蠶絲應用技術的重視，在一定程度上促進了蠶絲業的發展。

從《論語》看孔子與《易傳》之關係, Hung Kan Chan

歷來言《易傳》作者，或以爲出孔子之手，或以爲非孔子所作，莫衷一是。本文在前賢研究基礎上，從《論語》入手，找出書中孔子言論與傳世《易傳》内容相似之處，共得１７ 條，所言道理，包括朋友講習、改過遷善、節用愛民、慎言節食、敬義立德、寡慾致剛、不貳己過、順言以悦、非禮勿履、尊卑有序、止息争訟、赦過宥罪、思不出位、君子固窮、裒多益寡、修美文德、不言而行。以上諸點，《論語》與《易傳》立論，互爲表裏。據此，知孔子之於《易傳》，雖無撰述之實，或有闡述之功。本文證明《論語》與《象傳》及《彖傳》具密切關係，此對孔子闡述《易傳》之説，或可提供足資參考之佐證。

Illinois State University’s Milner Library is one of the few libraries in the nation possessing original posters produced during the First World War. It owes this distinction to the University’s first librarian, Angeline (known as Ange.) Vernon Milner. Milner preserved these posters after the war’s end, despite their original intent for a short-term, wartime-only purpose. As ephemera they were produced and distributed for public display and then meant to be discarded following the war. Milner preserved the posters recognizing their strong visual impact and value in illustrating a campus during wartime. Today these posters constitute the Answering the Call World …

Is There A Crisis Of Sustainable Development?, Edward Sandowski, Betty J. Harris

This article argues that there is a crisis of sustainable development. Sustainable development may mean a value system, but also may mean a set of societal development processes, manifested in political economy and culture. One crisis of sustainable development in either meaning arises from a combination of elements under neoliberalism. We stress three. (1) Sustainable development includes complex demands about justice. These involve conflicts among neoliberal justice and rival more philosophically plausible concepts of justice. (2) Care for the environment (basic to sustainable development) is complex, and generates multiple sometimes, conflicting demands on decision-making. (3)

Zeynep Bulutgil’s monograph, available now in paperback, has already received high praise and recognition, winning the American Political Science Association European Politics and Society Section book award in 2017. In this review, I set out what the book offers in terms of argument and evidence, and so outline its contribution to understanding ethnic conflict and ethnic cleansing. Anthropologist Alireza Doostdar’s first book, The Iranian Metaphysicals, is a well-written and theoretically sophisticated contribution to scholarship on modern Iranian history and society. Combining vividly portrayed ethnography with archival research and textual analysis, he offers an unprecedented account of Iranians’ experiences with and beliefs about the supernatural. The term ‘metaphysical’ emerges directly from his Iranian interlocutors, who use the Persian equivalents metafiziki or mavara’i to describe paranormal practices and phenomena ranging from sorcery and traditional occult sciences, to spirit possession and séances, to clairvoyance and teleportation. Alexander Brown writes as an inter-disciplinary scholar at the intersections of law, ethics, philosophy, and politics. With Hate Speech Law: A Philosophical Examination he justly claims to have explored “numerous principled arguments for and against hate speech law by articulating a collection of key normative principles” (316). This ambitious book identifies and organizes conflicting values within the hate speech controversies. It aims to synthesize deeper questions about core concepts of liberalism, democracy, personhood, dignity, and tolerance with policy concerns about pragmatics and effectiveness. This book aims to reject theoretical approaches that ground human rights in a notion of dignity, understood in terms of an equal rank, transcendental/spiritual quality and/or human capacity for rational agency. It argues instead that the idea of human rights should be grounded in a fundamental moral right of each person not to be treated as inferior. It defends this argument with reference to a substantive account of what it means to be treated as inferior in the relevant sense—dehumanization, instrumentalization, infantilization, objectification and stigmatization—combined with an account of when and why these are wrong.
