Typescript copy (prepared in 1911) of Marcus Bearden DeWitt’s pocket memorandum book from March-June 1863 and May 1865. A chaplain with the 8th Tennessee Infantry (C.S.A), DeWitt chronicles conditions during the Civil War, including camp life, travel, family visits, and religion. Also includes “A Sketch of My Life," a short autobiography written by DeWitt, and a memorial written by one of his children.

Over the course of the fifth to ninth centuries, the Roman Empire gave way in western Europe to several kingdoms initially founded by so-called 'barbarian' tribes. This thesis is a thematic assessment of the evolutionary trends that shaped this period. It respects and integrates the highly interconnected nature of these themes (politics and social structures, for instance). It is driven by a desire for synthesis, and in particular a desire to reconcile the economic arguments of Chris Wickham and Walter Goffart with the more political histories of Peter Heather and Guy Halsall. In this paper I examine the process of Muslim immigrants' integration, probing into the negative French perceptions of immigrants and how these perceptions may affect the process of integration and assimilation. I begin with a brief overview of French history as related to Muslim societies and how French culture and policies have evolved to their current state, such as the new strict policy on identity card renewal and the promise to integrate if accepted into the country. In 416, Bishop Innocent I of Rome sent a colleague in Gubbio what was to become one of the most important set of liturgical instructions in early Christendom. Innocent composed his remarks on, inter alia, penitential discipline and prescribed gestures during the administration of the Sacraments to deter other bishops and their priests from improvising. He claimed that bishops of Rome, as successors of St. Peter, had the responsibility to authenticate ritual observances and achieve uniformity in Italy and elsewhere. This essay sketches the story of the bands and bandmasters of the twenty seven new black army regiments which served in the U.S. Army in World War I. They underwent rapid mobilization and demobilization over 1917-1919, and were for the most part unconnected by personnel or traditions to the long-established bands of the four black regular U.S. Army regiments that preceded them and continued to serve after them. Pressed to find sufficient numbers of willing and able black band leaders, the army turned to schools and the entertainment industry for the necessary talent.
