Outlines how Heartbeat changed Saunders's view of God, Jesus, the Bible, and the church; the importance of vision and the compelling drive of Heartbeat's vision; and a proposal for Heartbeat for the next three years of 2012-2015 and the role Saunders feels he should play. Future goals include a book Saunders wants to author, a Heartbeat Institute, and a plan for laying up content and marketing it to a wide audience.

Self-Love And Self-Respect In The Meaningful Life, Erica Stonestreet

Most people have the sense that there's something wrong with living a meaningless life. Since most meaningless lives seem morally blameless, however, it's not obvious exactly what is wrong with it. Starting with a plausible conception of a meaningful life as a life engaged with values beyond oneself, I suggest that the problem is that someone living outside of this conception is not according herself a kind of recognition she deserves as a human being. Comparing self-respect and self-love as candidates for this recognition, I argue that lacking self-love is actually the more fitting explanation for what goes wrong in …

Temporalities And The Drawn Response To The Conservation And Restoration Of Paintings, Brian Fay

This paper will consider the temporal implications for drawing in the light of conservation and restoration treatments to paintings by the Seventeenth Century Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer.

Using three critical frameworks: Norman Bryson’s becoming model for drawing and the relationship of liminality to a painting during conservation/restoration, George Didi Huberman’s anti-chronological reading of the detail and the pan in painting, and Walter Benjamin’s definitions of drawing the paper will seek to address some implications for a drawing practice that responds to a pre-existing museum artworks.

Letters of Josephine Rogers (Rowan) Reid, written from Federal Hill, Bardstown, Kentucky to a friend, “Mary.” She writes in 1860 of treatment for an injured foot and an offer of marriage; reacts to Mary’s marriage to a Mr. Keating, notes the anniversary of her brother John’s death, and reports on her brother Lytle’s Civil War service in 1863; and writes of her own marriage and forthcoming move to New Orleans in 1865.
