Theodor Lohmann, Roger A. Lohmann

Theodor Lohmann was a 19th century German administrative lawyer, civil servant and social reformer, second in importance only to Otto von Bismarck in the formation of the German social insurance system. He was also extensively involved in German private social reform.

[Review Of] Horace's Iambic Criticism: Casting Blame (Iambike Poiesis). By Timothy S. Johnson, Erika Z. Damer

Classical Studies Faculty Publications

Although Horace's Epodes were frequently dismissed by earlier genera­tions as an uneven poetic collection of obscenity and juvenalia, more recently critics have begun to seriously engage with his first lyric collec­tion. Johnson's important new study offers the first comprehensive Eng­lish-language monograph on the Epodes since R. W. Carrubba's study of poetic arrangement in 1969. As such,Johnson's study makes a vital new companion to Watson's (2003) Oxford commentary, and his serial reading of Epodes 1-17 provide students and researchers with a novel interpretation of Horace's triumvi­ral collection.

All oral histories

Dr. Susan Anderson-Freed began teaching in the Sociology Department at Illinois Wesleyan University in 1977. A few years later she was reappointed to a position in the Computer Science program where she remained until her departure in 2008.

Anderson-Freed left teaching due to the effects of cancer treatments she was receiving and died on November 4, 2012. A long-time knitting enthusiast, she used the time of her treatments to design patterns and published two books on the subjects. Proceeds from these volumes, which have already been translated into several languages, are designated for the Community Cancer Center, Normal, Illinois. Her …
