Creative Copyrighting For The Cyberworld: Some Models And Solutions, Sæmund Fiskvik

Journal of Urban Culture Research

In this paper I suggest some models and solutions, which may be held to be unfounded in traditional legislation. I question the principle that all copyright provisions should be neutral from a technological point of view, and I address whether there should be particular copyright rules for Cyberspace partly distinctive from those in the physical world. I note that compulsory licensing in some ways may be better for rights-holders than exclusive rights, and I suggest that it would be relevant to regard streaming as rather similar to broadcasting. The Penumbra Of Weimar Political Culture: Pacifism, Feminism, And Social Democracy, Shelley Rose

History Faculty Publications

This article offers a new reading of Germany’s complex political culture, exploring the contributions of pacifists, international feminists, and Social Democrats as proactive, yet marginalized, participants in Weimar-era politics. Through a series of historical events including the No-More-War protests, international education courses, pacifist reading sessions, and a transnational peace exhibit, the author demonstrates dynamic exchanges between party and informal politics on the political Left. This interaction, as well as expanding transnational networks and awareness, opened new political spaces for peace activism in the Weimar Republic, the effects of which still endure today.

This paper will present an analysis of several women’s peacebuilding movements and describe their efforts to participate in formal peace negotiations. This analysis includes the design, development and implementation of the female and community-based initiatives as well as the strategies, tactics and approaches used by these women throughout the peace negotiation process. It is important to consider the central role women’s organizations have played in ensuring women’s involvement when examining peace negotiations. Despite a lack of formal invitations to participate in negotiations, many female community-based initiatives have gained entry through efforts outside the political realm.

For most Malaysians the State of Kelantan is almost synonymous with Malay arts and craft. The state capital, Kota Bharu is often described as the Cradle of Malay Culture. Despite of this, the cultural capital of Malaysia strictly forbids the performance of traditional Malay-theater. The traditional Mak Yong Theater and the Malay shadow theater Wayang Kulit, both listed on UNESCO's World Heritage List, are so unpopular for the region's governmental authorities that they might only be performed for tourists or for research purposes. Observing an apparent shift in the relationship between place and performance in creative work and audience behavior, Redefining Places for Art explored whether, how, why, and to what extent artists, administrators and audiences consider places as an essential aspect of the twenty-first century performance experience. The research examined six clusters of arts organizations in Queensland (Australia), from larger 'flagship companies' to small regional arts initiatives. Extensive interviews with key artistic decision-makers, focus groups with audience members, and a study of statistical data confirmed that no matter what their experience with performance, Queensland audiences are highly discerning about place. Conflict resolution scholars are increasingly revising an earlier skepticism about the place of emotions in mediation. This view portrayed the mediator's role as focusing on the rational and verbal. The study of the ancient colors at the Bhuddhaisawan Chapel, one of the most complete and oldest of the Rattanakosin Period, focuses on the wisdom that portrays Buddhism with faith through mural painting. This paper aims to systematically analyze the group of ancient colors found in the mural of the Chapel and depict the value of the work created by the Thais. Histories of the automobile in America often begin with the all-too-familiar observation that “the Automobile is European by birth and American by adoption.” And while that generalization certainly is useful in explaining things to undergraduate students, it rings particularly true in the case of the state of California, where beginning with the car’s appearance on the streets of Los Angeles and San Francisco, late nineteenth-century society and culture were rapidly and markedly transformed into a twentieth-century machine age. Paul’s understanding of the condition of nonbelievers and his understanding of how Satan attacks believers is explained in this article. In support of this effort the biblical data is examined and lessons arising from the Pauline corpus in relation to these two issues are noted. Paul’s perspective on these two issues is explored as it relates to his missiological practice. The article, then, concludes with some contemporary applications of this study as they affect current missiological practices.

In this “urban century,” it is sometimes easy to forget that urban work is not new to global missions. The purpose of this article is to review the work of four key twentieth century missiologists—Donald A. McGavran, Francis DuBose, Harvie Conn, and Roger Greenway— and consider their impact on the evangelism and missions in urban contexts. The article concludes with a brief analysis of their missiology and its application to twenty-first century missions strategy.

The last 300 years have witnessed the worldwide urban population jump from just two percent in 1700 to fifty percent at the turn of the twenty-first century. The Christian community has sought to adapt and respond to this current trend in the form of developing an urban theology. The Sinner’s Prayer has become part and parcel of Western evangelistic methodology. Its historical derivation can be traced to American revivalist techniques.
