An Examination Of The Relationship Between Family And U.S. Latinos’ Physical Health, Georgiana Bostean
An Examination Of The Relationship Between Family And U.S. Latinos’ Physical Health, Georgiana Bostean
Sociology Faculty Articles and Research
Latinos, especially immigrant Latinos, have lower mortality rates and some better health outcomes than U.S.-born Latinos and whites, a situation called the Latino Paradox. One explanation for the advantage is that Latinos’ family orientation protects health. However, because few large-scale studies examine Latinos’ family relationships by nativity, the extent to which family factors contribute to Latinos’ health outcomes is unclear. Additionally, while a large literature focuses on family cohesion, fewer studies address both cohesion and conflict, which may be particularly important among immigrants, whose migration and adaptation experiences can strain family relations. This study examines the relationship between family context …
Votes For Women: Women's Suffrage, Gendered Political Culture, And Progressive Era Masculinity In The State Of Indiana, Lindsay E. Rump
Votes For Women: Women's Suffrage, Gendered Political Culture, And Progressive Era Masculinity In The State Of Indiana, Lindsay E. Rump
Undergraduate Honors Thesis Collection
This thesis will examine gendered political culture and masculinity in Indiana during the Progressive Era, leading up to the enfranchisement of women. Using articles from newspapers and periodicals, this work will examine how women were presented in the public sphere, how they were methodically portrayed as the lighter sex, used for advertising for clothing or appliances and never taken seriously as political figures. Then, this paper will ex plain the profile of women's suffrage in Indiana, how the women in this state began the fight for the vote, the women and the conventions that carried it onward, and finally their …
Positive Account Of Protention And Its Implications For Internal Time-Consciousness, Neal Deroo
Positive Account Of Protention And Its Implications For Internal Time-Consciousness, Neal Deroo
Faculty Work Comprehensive List
One of fifteen original essays by an international team of expert contributors that together represent a cross-section of Husserl Studies today. The collection manifests the extent to which single themes in Husserl's corpus cannot be isolated, but must be considered in relation to their overlap with each other. Many of the accepted views of Husserl's philosophy are currently in a state of flux, with positions that once seemed incontestable now finding themselves relegated to the status of one particular school of thought.
In this chapter, DeRoo sheds light upon one area of phenomenology, which is Edmund Husserl's positive account of …

A Ritual Bath (Mikveh) At Meiri House Museum, Zefat, A-5827/2010, Yosef Stepansky
Favissa: Past Archaeological Excavation Reports
In January 2010, a trial excavation was conducted within the premises of the Meiri House Museum in the Jewish Quarter of Zefat, in a room that had served as a ritual bath (mikveh) during the Ottoman period and throughout the British Mandate era in the twentieth century (Permit No. A-5827/2010; map. ref. 246292–308/763692–707). The excavation was carried out on behalf of the Israel Antiquities Authority and was funded by the Meiri House Museum. The excavation was directed by Yosef Stepansky, with the assistance of Hagit Tahan-Rosen (pottery drawing), Yosef Yaakobi (administration), Yehudit Meiri and Eyal Meiri (technical assistance …
The Role Of The Hyperintellectual In Civil Society Building And Democratization In The Balkans, Uloga Hiperintelektualca U Izgradnji Građanskog Društva I Demokratizaciji Na Balkanu, Rory Conces
Philosophy Faculty Publications
Although intellectuals have been a part of the cultural landscape, it is in post-conflict societies, such as those found in Kosovo and Bosnia, that there has arisen a need for an intellectual who is more than simply a social critic, an educator, a man of action, and a compassionate individual. Enter the hyperintellectual. As this essay will make clear, it is the hyperintellectual, who through a reciprocating critique and defense of both the nationalist enterprise and strong interventionism of the International Community, as well as being a man of action and compassionate and empathic insider, strives to create a climate …
