Who Is Jesus? Reflections On S. Endo's "A Life Of Jesus", Aisha Arshad

Verbum

In lieu of an abstract, below is the essay's first paragraph.

"Shusaku Endo was a Japanese author born in Tokyo in 1923. He was raised by his single mother who became a fervent believer in Christianity. With her influence, Endo himself was baptized by the age of twelve. Having grown up in Japan, Endo was obviously very knowledgeable about Japanese religion and customs and most especially Japanese ideals. He claimed that “the Japanese have a traditional saying to the effect that the four most dreadful things on the earth are fire, earthquakes, thunderbolts, and fathers” (4). Obviously, as this quote …

Verbum

In lieu of an abstract, below is the essay's first paragraph.

"What can one say about life with a degree in Religious Studies from St. John Fisher College?

Well, it's almost been a year since graduation and I can say that things are definitely different but ever the same. I am now at the Faculty of Theology at the University of St. Michael‟s College (USMC) in Toronto, Ontario. When people ask me what I am doing with my life now, I do sometimes answer using the acronym. Of course, to an American, it is first heard as the branch of …

Baby Brendan, Nicole Hough Velazquez

Verbum

In lieu of an abstract, below is the essay's first paragraph.

"On December 2, 2009, Baby Brendan entered my life. He was perfect; 10 fingers, 10 toes and a smile to melt the cold winter days. Everybody he came into contact with instantly fell in love with him. He is the most beautiful baby I have ever seen; maybe I‟m biased because he is my son."

"But, Father Wheeland, The Bible Lies!", Stephanie Woodward

Verbum

In lieu of an abstract, below is the essay's first paragraph.

“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: For thou art with me…” We sit and recite these words that we know by heart, which seem to mean absolutely nothing to us right now. I look to my sister on my left; she looks back at me for reassurance. I give her a strong, stern look: We can do this. As the psalm, which does no justice in representing the reason we are here, is ending, my sister and I …

The Uniqueness Of "The Thunder: The Perfect Mind", Katie Kreutter May 2010

The Uniqueness Of "The Thunder: The Perfect Mind", Katie Kreutter

Verbum

In lieu of an abstract, below is the essay's first paragraph.

"Although it is included in The Nag Hammadi Library, a complete collection of Gnostic Scriptures, The Thunder: The Perfect Mind is unique in its style and composition and some scholars even debate its classification as Gnostic. Regardless of its philosophical influences, this distinctive work contains both timeless principles and culturally defined statements that legitimize its analysis and consideration as a worthwhile piece of literature."

The Promethean, Volume 18, Do I Dare Disturb The Universe, 2010, English Department, Concordia University-Portland

The Promethean

The vision for The Promethean this year was a journal not afraid to be bold. Not afraid to disturb this universe that we perceive and expose reality. Leading the editorial staff this year as Managing Editor was not easy. My predecessors set the expectations high and have set a precedent of continual improvement; this seemed a little daunting.

As with every project of this caliber there were complications alongside wonderful submissions and miscommunications that accompanied deep conversation. I consider myself lucky when I look at my editing team. As a staff we are passionate about many styles of writing, about …

The Transformation Of Persons And The Concept Of Moral Order: A Study Of The Evangelical Ethics Of Oliver O'Donovan With Special Reference To The Barth-Brunner Debate, Bruce D. Baker May 2010

The Transformation Of Persons And The Concept Of Moral Order: A Study Of The Evangelical Ethics Of Oliver O'Donovan With Special Reference To The Barth-Brunner Debate, Bruce D. Baker

SPU Works

This dissertation investigates the evangelical ethics of Prof. Oliver O’Donovan in order to explore the implications of his “evangelical realism” for theological anthropology, moral knowledge and the concept of moral order. The Barth-Brunner debate regarding natural theology provides a lens onto these issues. Theological case studies are used to test our findings.

Chapter 1 provides an overture to these issues, paying attention to current ideas about human nature and morality, and the growing influence of neuroscience and evolutionary psychology.

Chapter 2 focuses on Resurrection and Moral Order, and elucidates the salient factors in its outline for evangelical ethics.

Chapter …

The Integration Of The Volga Germans Into American Lutheranism, Richard Allen Davenport May 2010

The Integration Of The Volga Germans Into American Lutheranism, Richard Allen Davenport

Master of Sacred Theology Thesis

This paper traces the incorporation of Lutheran Volga Germans arriving in this country between 1870 and 1910 into American Christianity and identifies factors in their affiliation with American church bodies. It analyzes whether Lutheran bodies identified the Volga Germans as a distinct ethnic group among German immigrants in America and recognized the specific challenges and adaptations necessary to work among them. Where Volga German congregations were established, the factors which decided joining one denomination over another are explored. Specific theological, ecclesiastical, and cultural issues that determined whether a group of Volga Germans aligned with one church body versus another are …

Perceptions Of Faculty Caring: Comparison Of Distance And Traditional Graduate Nursing Students, Lea R. Hall May 2010

Perceptions Of Faculty Caring: Comparison Of Distance And Traditional Graduate Nursing Students, Lea R. Hall

All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The concept of caring has played a vital role in nursing education. Role modeling has been identified as the primary way to teach caring and has been investigated extensively. As caring has evolved, so has the ways in which we educate nurses. Countless institutions now offer distance education programs in nursing in an effort to address the nurse and nurse educator shortage. It is unclear, however, from the nursing education literature if the modeling of caring can be transferred to students in a distance learning environment. This study investigated the impact of learning environment, program satisfaction, and persistence on graduate …
