Growth And Characterization Of Epitaxial Thin Films And Multiferroic Heterostructures Of Ferromagnetic And Ferroelectric Materials, Devajyoti Mukherjee

Multiferroic materials exhibit unique properties such as simultaneous existence of

two or more of coupled ferroic order parameters (ferromagnetism, ferroelectricity,

ferroelasticity or their anti-ferroic counterparts) in a single material. Recent years have

seen a huge research interest in multiferroic materials for their potential application as

high density non-volatile memory devices. However, the scarcity of these materials in

single phase and the weak coupling of their ferroic components have directed the

research towards multiferroic heterostructures. These systems operate by coupling the

magnetic and electric properties of two materials, generally a ferromagnetic material and

All states have different perspectives and various statutes within broader constitutional law. Perception of public dissatisfaction with public schools has led to choice schooling options for parents. One of the fastest growing choice options in schooling is charter schools; schools privately run by organizations through public funds. This study analyzes the governance of charter schools and how charters operate under legal guidelines and Florida statutes, with significant legislative events cited. The potential of online virtual environments, such as Second Life for delivering remote learning continues to be debated by academics. It would appear to offer particular opportunities to support remote learning in art & design, where there is a particular requirement for live visual interaction. The School of Art, Design & Printing at the Technological University Dublin (DIT) received funding to develop a module for undergraduate students to test this theory. A five-credit module (under the European Credit Transfer System) received formal approval from the Institute in 2008 and was delivered as a pilot to academic staff interested in exploring …

From Subject To Citizen: Tarleton Bates And Evolution Of Republican Man On The Pennsylvania Frontier, Leo Jon Grogan

This dissertation is written as a microhistory, and it focuses on the life, career, and death of Tarleton Bates, third Prothonotary of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. Bates was born in Virginia, but he left in 1794 as a soldier in the Virginia militia to suppress the Whiskey Rebellion. Bates decided to remain in Pittsburgh, where he became an influential leader of the local Republican Party. His politics eventually involved him in a number of disputes, and in 1806 he was forced to fight a duel with a local merchant named Thomas Stewart. The microhistory describes Bates life within the context of …

Kit Carson's Last Fight: The Adobe Walls Campaign Of 1864, David Pafford

History ETDs

In the fall of 1864, Brigadier General James H. Carleton sent Kit Carson and about four hundred men on a punitive campaign against the Kiowa and Comanche Indians of the high plains. The resulting battle was one of the largest in the history of North American Indian Wars. Yet this conflict has been relegated to historical obscurity. In this paper, I examine why Kit Carson's 1864 Adobe Walls Campaign is forgotten, I measure the success of the mission, and place it in the larger context of nineteenth century Indian Wars, particularly those prosecuted against plains tribes.
