Review Of Efflux Pump Overexpression Resistance Mechanisms For Pseudomonas Aeruginosa, Gregory Burkman

The complexities of infectious diseases are not limited to one specialty, but rather encompass all types of physician care. One of the many present difficulties is the prevention, management, and treatment of microorganism resistance. In this review article, one method of acquired resistance possible to many bacteria, in particular Pseudomonas aeruginosa is described. This gram negative bacterium is able to induce an overexpression of efflux pumps that can eject intracellular antibiotics into the extracellular space, thereby avoiding cellular death. In P. aeruginosa four efflux pumps have been studied, which all have the ability to extrude specific classes of antibiotics. This …

This thesis applies a rhetorical lens to the work of Eugene O'Neill, specifically, those plays written between the years 1939 and 1942-the height of his dramatic genius. This thesis works to reimagine Eugene O'Neill, often looked upon as "lacking rhetorical exuberance," as a distinctive and successful rhetor, in addition to installing the "pipe dream" as his foremost rhetorical device.

This thesis will attempt to show that Dido's Tragedy, rather than reinforcing or celebrating a patriotic version of Homer's heroic code, offers a critical view of the suffering involved in the founding of a new nation, and thus of Aeneas's Destiny.

Throughout Islamic era, the Syriac language remained the language of the majority despite Arabic hegemony. The decline of the Syriac accompanied the decline of Christianity in the East, and was affected by the policies of rival religious and nationalist groups. By considering the current conditions under which Syriac speakers live, and the renewed interest in reviving the language among Christian communities in the modern Fertile Crescent, this thesis will examine the causes of decline over the centuries, and the possibilities for the revival of Syriac in modern times. For the purpose of this thesis, the main focus of the feminist rhetorical criticism method was specifically linked to gender-related power inequities. This method was especially appropriate for the analysis of how film violence is used as a feminist rhetorical strategy in the Kill Bill films. This thesis is more closely aligned with challenging rhetorical standards as it sought to identify feminist counter positions of rhetoric in film violence.

It is astonishing, when one thinks of it, that a series of children's books is so crammed with law. Not one of the seven Harry Potter novels fails to explore difficult issues law, interpretation and especially the relationship of the state to the individual. From practically the first page of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (SS) we ponder issues of child custody, fosterage and adoption;1 before Harry even gets to Hogwarts we have heard about crime and punishment,2 legal control over the use of magic,3 monetary policy,4 and Wizarding government.5 Before the series is complete we have witnessed five …

Language Endangerment In West Africa: Its Victims And Causes, George Tucker Childs

This paper catalogues the forces at work threatening the Atlantic languages of Guinea and Sierra Leone. Compared to Mande, the other major language group in the area, and to figures for Africa in general (Sommer 1992), the Atlantic Group is beset by ominous forces. These include what could be considered ecological features (e.g., Mufwene 2001): the Mande Expansion (Niane 1989), colonialism, the spread of Islam, and globalization. There are other forces to be sure, such as the influence of Christian missions (Welmers 1971; cf. Mühlhäusler 1990), urbanization (a sub-category, perhaps, of globalization), and climatic changes (Brooks 1993, Fairhead and Leach …
