An Obedient Defense Of Disobedience: The Brothers Of The Common Life And The Boundaries Of Religion, Carol Geisler
Doctor of Philosophy Dissertation
Geisler, Carol A. "An Obedient Defense of Disobedience: The Brothers of the Common Life and the Boundaries of Religion." Ph.D. diss., St. Louis: Concordia Seminary, 2008. 237 pp.
Like many of their contemporaries, the priests, clerics, and laity of the fourteenth century spiritual movement the devotio moderna wished to imitate the lifestyle of Christ, his apostles, and the earliest Christians. Inspired by the preaching and ideals of the movement's founder, Geert Grote, these men and women of the Low Countries came to be called the Brothers and Sisters of the Common Life. They pursued the apostolic life in communities, following …
Facing God: Contemporary American Devotional Poetry, Sarah E. Jenkins
Facing God: Contemporary American Devotional Poetry, Sarah E. Jenkins
Theses and Dissertations
My thesis examines the connection between scripture and contemporary American poetry. Scripture is inherently poetic, employing devices that require analysis and explication. Poets drawing from scriptural text for narrative, language, or form are not looking to replace scripture, or even enhance it. Poets create new experiences in language, and their writing can illuminate the poetics of scripture. My thesis will examine work by three contemporary poets who have imitated, alluded to, and re-created scripture: Jacqueline Osherow's "Scattered Psalms" from 1999 collection Dead Men's Praise; Louise Glück's 1992 Pulitzer Prize-winning collection The Wild Iris; and Morri Creech's "The Testament of Judas" …

A Theological Guide To Calvin's Institutes: Essays And Analysis, Peter A. Lillback
Alumni Book Gallery
"A Theological Guide to Calvin's Institutes" fills a gap in the literature for Reformation studies. While much has been written about the Institutes, this book is the first to undertake a section-by-section analysis of John Calvin's magnum opus.
Twenty leading Calvin scholars exhibit a firm understanding of and passion for Calvin's work, covering each part of the Institutes and providing essential background information on the Institutes as well as a bibliography of Calvin resources. Contributors include David B. Calhoun, William Edgar, Michael S. Horton, Robert L. Reymond and Richard B. Gaffin, Jr.
This long-needed work will serve as the natural …

Manufacturing Process Design And Control Based On Error Equivalence Methodology, Shaoqiang Chen
Manufacturing Process Design And Control Based On Error Equivalence Methodology, Shaoqiang Chen
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Error equivalence concerns the mechanism whereby different error sources result in identical deviation and variation patterns on part features. This could have dual effects on process variation reduction: it significantly increases the complexity of root cause diagnosis in process control, and provides an opportunity to use one error source as based error to compensate the others.
There are fruitful research accomplishments on establishing error equivalence methodology, such as error equivalence modeling, and an error compensating error strategy. However, no work has been done on developing an efficient process design approach by investigating error equivalence. Furthermore, besides the process mean shift, …

A Study Of The Life And Work Of Christopher Durang: Laughing Wild Amidst Severest Woe, Jeannine M. James
Theses and Dissertations
This thesis maps Durang's struggle with faith and demonstrates how his personal journey to discover and document his pain acts as a catalyst for his creative work. It will explore his style of masking and unmasking himself in his characters revealing his innermost pain and suffering. I also surmise that his work serves as a kind of therapy by allowing him to constantly unravel and unveil his investigation of self.
This thesis examines Christopher Durang's personal history and family struggles in an effort to understand the experiences that shaped the work of one of America's premier authors of absurdist comedy. …

Annika Sorenstam And Justine Henin, Richard C. Crepeau
On Sport and Society
I have been trying to remember a time when two players who dominated their sport retired within a day of one another. Two of the most significant people in sport have walked away well before time demanded. In the case of Justine Henin the fact that she is only 25 adds to the surprise, while even with Annika Sorenstam at age 37 it seems as if she is leaving early.

Michelle fleet is a dancer with the Paul Taylor Dance Company who grew up in the Jackson Houses in the Bronx. She was born on September 24, 1977.
Growing up, Fleet remembers the vast array of empty buildings. Her mother would warn her to be in by a certain time because of how dangerous the area was. Fleet says that hearing gunshots was not an uncommon phenomenon.
Fleet cites her father as her musical influence. He would often play while in the house and invite his band mates over for jam sessions. Her father played funk alternative style of music …
A Look Back At The Tangshan Earthquake And The Montreal Olympics
A Look Back At The Tangshan Earthquake And The Montreal Olympics
China Beat Blog: Archive 2008-2012
Like many of the audience in China watching the round-the-clock CCTV broadcasts about the terrible earthquake in Sichuan, I thought back to the deadliest earthquake of the 20th century, the Tangshan earthquake of 1976, which also registered 7.8 on the Richter scale, but which killed 240,000 people. It occurred during the Montreal Olympic Games, which China did not attend because the Sports Commission was still mired in the Cultural Revolution and could not respond to friendly overtures. China would not be re-admitted to the International Olympic Committee until 1979. A section of the biography of He Zhenliang, the International Olympic …
