This essay attempts to present a commentary about the notion of paradise in Latin America, as a whole, with a quick review of literature produced in the last 500 years. The image of paradise arises with Columbus' arrival in the Caribbean. In his letters to the Spanish Crown, Columbus creates the myth of paradise in the Caribbean, an image that never existed and, yet, still appears today within Latin American Literature. The poster downloadable here is one of many I designed in different colors for 'Graphic Content: Art of the New Music Poster'. The poster was hand stenciled and spray painted for an exhibit at the Stanlee and Gerald Rubin Center for the Visual Arts. The traveling exhibition was curated by Dirk Fowler, Assistant Professor of Graphic Design at Texas Tech University School of Art and contained more than 100 posters by 25 different artists highlighting the growing importance of the rock poster in contemporary art.

Increasing Fluency In Struggling Readers Through Newspaper Reading, Kimberly Bonice Koch

Theses Digitization Project

The focus on this study was on improving the oral reading fluency of third grade students who struggle in reading. One third grade teacher and six of her students participated in this 4 week study that examined the effect on fluency of newspaper reading and various constructive reading and engagement activites. These six students were assigned to an Optimal Learning Model pull-out fluency instruction using the newspaper as text. Results from the Developmental Reading Assessment instrument reveal significantly improved effects in the number if miscues, correct words per minute, and prosody for the six students.
