Super Bowl Excesses, Richard C. Crepeau Feb 2007

Super Bowl Excesses, Richard C. Crepeau

On Sport and Society

Over the past week I have revisited several years of Super Bowl columns. After re-reading each of them three questions have haunted me. What are the greatest moments of the absurd and sleaze kind in the history of the Super Bowl? Is it possible for anything associated with the Super Bowl this year to achieve the lofty heights set by previous Super Bowl Experiences? Is it possible for the Super Bowl to continue to grow in scale as it has done every year for the past forty years? These are the pressing questions that cry out for answers on the …

Sleep As Metaphor In Paul- Dying And Living In The Promise Of The Parousia, Nadine Grayl Feb 2007

Sleep As Metaphor In Paul- Dying And Living In The Promise Of The Parousia, Nadine Grayl

Master of Art Theology Thesis

This project began with a curiosity for "life after death" matters when I was in confirmation class at a small South Jersey Lutheran church. My mother wanted to know if believers would be with Jesus as soon as they died, so I asked the pastor this and more. It was not until almost ten years later when I attended the 1999 Theological Symposium at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, MO, as an undergraduate deaconess student from Concordia University, River Forest, IL, that I learned what really happens to believers when they die-and even if they don't. I am ever grateful …

(Review) Caesar In Gaul And Rome: War In Words, Eric Adler Feb 2007

(Review) Caesar In Gaul And Rome: War In Words, Eric Adler

Classics Faculty Publications

“[Andrew M. Riggsby has written] . . . an insightful monograph on the Caesarian portion of the BG [De bello Gallico]. The result will prove useful not only to those interested in Caesar, but also to scholars whose work focuses on the nature of Roman imperialism and ancient ethnography. . . . Caesar in Gaul and Rome demonstrates its author's familiarity with contemporary theoretical perspectives (postcolonialism, semiotics, etc.), yet never seems dogmatic or arcane. [The author] may not single-handedly reverse [negative] scholarly attitudes toward Caesar's commentarii, but his work goes a long way toward demonstrating what can be gleaned from …

It covered the State of Maine only. The list was begun and maintained for many years by Jean Vermette in Bangor, and later operated by Zack Paakkonen of Portland. Over the years it evolved from a social activities newsletter into a business directory, classified ad service, and community bulletin board.

Cyberspace, Cosmology, And The Meaning Of Life, Albert Borgmann Feb 2007

Cyberspace, Cosmology, And The Meaning Of Life, Albert Borgmann

Philosophy Faculty Publications

When on the Tuesdays before Thanksgiving only about half of my students in the large introductory ethics class show up, I reward the faithful with the promise to reveal the meaning of life. The announcement is always met with a ripple of laughter-a mixture of incredulity, curiosity, and good humor. The meaning of life, I say, cannot be borrowed, bought, or manufactured. It has to be discovered. And how do you discover it? Why, you use the meaning-of-life-locator. And what is that?
