The Restoration Of The Permanent Diaconate: A Blending Of Roles, Sherri L. Vallee

School of Theology and Seminary Graduate Papers/Theses

This paper critiques the restoration of the permanent diaconate since Vatican II, focussing on historical discontinuities and theological issues. A core difficulty results from current attempts to merge two separate and distinct sets of functions into one role. Today, deacons are asked to fulfill not only traditional diaconal responsibilities; they are also expected to fulfill many roles that have traditionally been presbyteral functions. These two sets of responsibilities require different sets of charisms and different levels of formation, and do not naturally belong together. La Chanson D'Yde Et Olive: A Parable Of A Medieval Self-Made Man, NoéMie Young-Studer

Dissertations and Theses

La chanson d'Yde et Olive, an early fourteenth-century epic poem from the Picard region, exemplifies the medieval custom of text renewal that seeks to adapt pagan materials to fit Christian doctrine. Largely based on the plot of the Ovidian fable Iphis and Ianthe from The Metamorphoses, its main character Yde undergoes a metaphorical transformation from a woman into a man. Moreover, much like the Ovide moralisé, a Christianized adaptation of the Latin original, Yde et Olive's message can be understood as a Christian parable for the purging of the sinful soul. On February 3, 2003 Steven Glazier interviewed Francis, a director of music at Ginghamsburg United Methodist, and Cheryl Wyatt a professional singer, for a class project dealing with oral histories and capturing the history of the Miami Valley. During the interview Francis and Cheryl discuss their respective childhoods, meeting in the Air Force band, and their married life as an interracial couple.

The name LeBron James was one that I saw occasionally on the ESPN.com site during my time in London last fall. I paid little attention to it having lived through the Amare Stoudemire buzz in Orlando last winter. I had no idea what a major story James had become in Dickvitaleland and how big a celebrity he is across America. He is so popular he may be the only high school student in America today who is known by his first name only.

Sexuality: A Queer Omission In U.S. Latino/A Theology, James B. Nickoloff

Journal of Hispanic / Latino Theology

U.S. Latino/a theologies have been prophetically strident in calling out oppression of every sort for scrutiny — all, that is, except for sexuality: particularly homosexuality, around which they has been an embarrassing and stultifying silence. Nickoloff calls for a “teología homo de conjunto,” calling attention to questions of gender and sexuality, and the crossings between them, in contemporary critical theory and Latino/a theology.
