Rainfall-Runoff Modeling In Humid Shallow Water Table Environments, Tatiana X. Hernandez

Simulating the processes of rainfall and runoff are at the core of hydrologic modeling. Geomorphologic features, rainfall variability, soil types, and water table depths strongly influence hydrological process in Florida ecosystems. Topographic characteristics of the terrain define the stream paths and landscape. Alteration of these characteristics as a result of urban and/or agricultural developments, for example, can highly influence wetlands and river basin response. There are two predominant landforms in Florida: wetlands, where Variable Saturated Areas form near streams causing saturation excess runoff, and uplands where runoff is mainly generated by infiltration excess. "In Brightest Africa": Naturalistic Constructions Of Africa In The American Museum Of Natural History, 1910-1936, Jeannette Eileen Jones

The opening of the American Museum of Natural History's Akeley African Hall in 1936 symbolized the triumph of a vision of Africa almost twenty-five years in its conception. Led by Carl Akeley, naturalists at the AMNH dreamed of "Brightest Africa" (C. Akeley 1924), epitomized in an exhibit that would capture the true essence of the continent and dispel myths of steaming jungles, ferocious beasts, and primitive savages. For them, the Hall was the culmination of years of expedition, research, and discovery in the "Dark Continent," supported by scholarly publication, radio broadcast, and cinematic production. Plato teaches that the arche and telos of politics is liturgical action. No 'purely secular' foundation of a polis is possible. Politics necessarily opens beyond itself and is therefore subject to theological critique and theotic fulfillment (or not). The Republic teaches about the primacy of the liturgical; in the Laws Plato presents the proper liturgical act for human beings.

Oh Brother! The Fraternity Of Rhetoric And Philosophy In Plato's Gorgias, Roslyn Weiss

Brothers abound in the Gorgias, as do types of fraternal relations. I look for that form of fraternity in the Gorgias that Plato means to serve as a model or paradigm for the ideal relationship between rhetoric and philosophy. The Gorgias acknowledges deficiency not only in rhetoric but in philosophy as well, and recognizes merit in both rhetoric and philosophy, so that there is potential for the two to complement one another and when they do, to be of real benefit.

When I returned from the O-rena and the Magic NBA Playoff game last night I had a headache. Maybe it was a bad Pepsi, maybe the pounding the Bucks put on the Magic, or maybe it was the decibel levels of noise that once again assaulted my very being. I'm not talking about the screaming of the fans, but about the loud thumping music, the pounding of the bass, and the inane booming "voice of banality" that is the arena announcer.
