The Fench Writers In The Seventeenth Century: The Literary Works Of Corneille Converted And Stabilized The French Language, Bernard Raphael

This thesis, submitted to Xavier University in partial fulfillment of requirements for a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1932, argues that the literary work of Pierre Corneille converted and stabilized the French language during the seventeenth century. It surveys the major literary institutions and figures shaping French letters during this period, including the Salon de Rambouillet and its role in refining literary taste, and the founding of the French Academy under Richelieu and its work compiling the French dictionary. Corneille's development of French classical tragedy is examined in detail, particularly through "Le Cid," with attention to his treatment of the …

The author's aim in this thesis, has been to trace the history of Oldham County through a period of about sixty years, noting the various changes in its economic life. The present stock farming and wheat culture era was preceded by several decades of ranching, which in turn was antedated by the Indian period. Historians in the future, will tell the story of the breaking up of the large farms and ranches into smaller units to provide farms for our increasing population.

Although much has been written in criticism of the policy pursued by the United States government in its relation with the Navajo Indians, no investigations have yet been made to determine the nature and development of this policy. The writer chose the subject of this thesis with the hope that she might discover evidence that would make it possible to answer these questions; having lived in close contact and association with the Navajos during her entire life she naturally feels a personal interest in their problems and welfare.

The departure of Spenser for Ireland in 1580 as secretary to Lord Grey of Wilton, newly appointed Lord Deputy of Ireland, marks a significant point in the poet's career. Save for occasional trips to England, the remaining years of his life Spenser spent in this "salvage land", among a hostile and turbulent people, far from the brilliance of English court life and "Elisa's blessed fields."
