Mormon Settlement Of Snake River Fork Country, 1883-1893, Norman Earl Ricks

Theses and Dissertations

The most interesting and important place in the world is where a man lives. His home becomes the finest place on earth regardless of its merits in relation to other habitats. After years of residence the history of the country takes on reality and significance and a long acquaintance reveals elements of romance and adventure that enhance ones love of his surroundings. A Survey Of The English Language In The Philippines And The Various Filipino Dialects And The Development Of Tagalog As A National Language, Vidal Serrano Mata Jan 1950

A Survey Of The English Language In The Philippines And The Various Filipino Dialects And The Development Of Tagalog As A National Language, Vidal Serrano Mata

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

This Master Thesis aims to discuss the language mix-up in the Philippines. Originally, the people speak different dialects because of the lack of interaction due to geographical isolation. The Spaniards brought Spanish to them, which became the official language of the government until the Americans came and made English the medium of instruction in the school.

The trouble lies in the fact that English-speaking-and-loving Filipinos want English only, Spanish-speaking-and-loving Filipinos want Spanish only, Tagalog-speaking-and-loving Filipinos want Tagalog only while non-Tagalog-speaking Filipinos are either indifferent or prefer their respective dialects. This is the uncomfortable mess created by the principles of democracy …

The Interior Plan Of A Workable Little Theater For Napa College, Dayton Coffey Jan 1950

The Interior Plan Of A Workable Little Theater For Napa College, Dayton Coffey

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

Considered from the viewpoint of drama and stagecraft instructors, many of our school theater buildings are inadequate. Visits to numerous high school and college auditoriums in northern California and contact with faculty members using them have convinced the writer of the need for improvement to campus theater planning. The auditorium and little theater in the recently constructed Franklin school in Stockton, California, are good examples of poor planning. In the writer's opinion the auditorium is too large and the little theater too small for either of them to give practical service, especially in relation to their construction costs.

That successful …

Our analysis, by necessity, shall have a six-fold purpose; (1) to analyze briefly the characteristics of the Attic theatre for which Euripides wrote; (2) to study the life and philosophy of Euripides in order to determine the presence of humanism; (3) to conduct …

A Comparison Of The Nineteenth And Twentieth Century Criticism Of Shakespeare's Heroines, Grace Mcleod Gartman Jan 1950

A Comparison Of The Nineteenth And Twentieth Century Criticism Of Shakespeare's Heroines, Grace Mcleod Gartman

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The nineteenth century critics appraised Shakespeare's heroines by standards different from those of the twentieth; consequently the two ages reached different conclusions. The purpose of this paper is to point out just what these differences are.

A paper of this scope had to be narrowed in some ways. Otherwise a formidable array of heroines would have been enumerated, but little depth of research could have been shown. In the general conclusion the result would have been the same, as I have discovered through wide reading. To limit the subject only the most famous heroines could be included. The process of …

The Pana Coal Mining Strike of 1898 and 1899 was considered by Mr. Ross, secretary of the Illinois State Bureau of Labor Statistics, as being a contest for the preservation of the mining industry.l The importance of this labor disturbance lies in the fact that upon its success or failure hinged the permanance of the interstate coal mining agreements as a method of settling disputes and determining mining conditions. It is the purpose of this thesis to relate the history of this strike, its origin and development, and the subsequent results of the "Big Trouble," as the local people term …
