An Analysis Of Old Testament Chronology In The Light Of Modern Scripture And Scientific Research, Dale Alder Mcallister
Theses and Dissertations
The first objective of this thesis was to examine the Old Testament chronology carefully to see how it is computed. The second objective was to examine the modern scriptures to see what contributions they make in establishing a more accurate, reliable chronology. The third objective was to examine certain hypotheses in archaeology, carbon dating processes, and geology that seem to conflict with the Old Testament chronology with the purpose in mind of learning how accurate their findings are and what possibilities exist for a closer harmony between these sciences and the Old Testament scriptural chronology.
The Relationship Of Orthodoxy And Prejudice Among Seminary Students Of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints, Donald Sorensen
The Relationship Of Orthodoxy And Prejudice Among Seminary Students Of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints, Donald Sorensen
Theses and Dissertations
Research of the relationship between orthodoxy and prejudice is not clear. Some studies report those who acknowledge church membership to be less tolerant than those who do not. Other investigators find either slight differences or no differences among the attitudes of members of different religions. Still others find important differences in acceptance of orthodox religious beliefs and attitudes toward minority groups.
A Book Of Mormon Course Of Study For Indian Students In Released-Time Seminaries, Robert Lee Hales
A Book Of Mormon Course Of Study For Indian Students In Released-Time Seminaries, Robert Lee Hales
Theses and Dissertations
This course has been written to present a simplified version of the Book of Mormon for use with students whose reading skills are below average. It was specifically designed for released-time Indian seminary students. The Indian students often find it very hard to compete with white students in seminary. Where this problem exists teachers have found it advisable to form all-Indian classes.
Released-time Indian seminary classes are a recent addition to the L.D.S. Seminary system. In the 1962-63 school year two such classes were held. The future holds promise that many more will be instituted. Teaching the Book of Mormon …

Clarissa Cutler Kimball refused to come West with the Mormons. The Mormon Colonies Of Northern Mexico: A History, 1885-1912, B Carmon Hardy
The Mormon Colonies Of Northern Mexico: A History, 1885-1912, B Carmon Hardy
Wayne State University Dissertations
This study, based almost entirely on Mormon diaries and other primary documents, suggests in the first place, that Mormonism while displaying a kind of cultural separatism on one level, was, at another level, in close harmony with American notions of economic and political expansionism. The study of the character of the colonists' thought and culture, provides explanation for the difficulties imposed on Mexico Mormons during and after the 1910 Revolution. Finally, this dissertation seeks to chronicle a frontier venture. For the Mormon undertaking in northern Mexico constitutes one of the last chapters in the story of America's nineteenth century pioneers.
The Kingdom Of God In Mormon Thought And Practice, 1830-1896, Klaus J. Hansen
The Kingdom Of God In Mormon Thought And Practice, 1830-1896, Klaus J. Hansen
Wayne State University Dissertations
In the spring of 1844 the Mormon prophet Joseph Smith organized a secret organization called the Council of Fifty as the governing body of a political kingdom of God which ultimately was to rule the world. The idea of the political kingdom of God and attempts of the Council of Fifty to transform this idea into reality through the creation of a temporal Mormon state provide the central theme of Mormon history during the major part of the nineteenth century. It is therefore one of the more puzzling phenomena of historiography that these aspects of Mormon history have escaped almost …

Metaphysical Conceits Involving Death In The Writings Of John Donne, Eleanor B. Baird
Metaphysical Conceits Involving Death In The Writings Of John Donne, Eleanor B. Baird
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Much has been written in the past fifty years about John Donne and his work. His troubled life and enigmatic writings have made him seem a kindred spirit to a confused age. To our day the dissonant, abrupt, and calculatedly reckless style and the concern with the harsh realities of love and death have relevance which heretofore had been misunderstood or ignored.

Every shade of opinion was expressed ranging from the utterances of so-called Abolitionist Republican George W. Julian, to the ultra-conservative sentiments voiced by Daniel Voorhees, Democrat.

Latter-Day Prophets And Present-Day Curriculum, Neil J. Flinders
Latter-Day Prophets And Present-Day Curriculum, Neil J. Flinders
Theses and Dissertations
A gap exists between the religious ideals of human behavior and the common practices of man. Considerable effort has been expended in attempts to discover how to teach men to behave in ways that would be acceptable to society and still satisfy the ideals of the various religions. This problem is one of the major concerns of religious education.
In an effort to solve the above problem among its membership, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has established a program of week-day religious instruction, commonly referred to as the "Seminary program." This organization is currently engaged in an …

Pacific Theatre : A Chronological Recording Of Productions Between The Years Of 1935 And 1962, Curtis Andrews Ennen
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
This study could not be, and is not intended to be, an exhaustive historical report of all the theatrical activity encompassed by the Drama Department at The University of the Pacific. To embark on such a venture would be well beyond the capabilities and the patience of the present writer. In fact, to attempt a history of any one of the several facets of this organization would be a major undertaking. Fortunately, a ·partial study of the activities of Pacific Little Theatre has been made in the form of a thesis by DeMarcus Brown, Director of' Pacific Theatre. This work, …
