Bach's B Minor Flute Sonata: A Study Of Six Recorded Interpretations, Edwin F. Sabrack Jr. Aug 1974

Bach's B Minor Flute Sonata: A Study Of Six Recorded Interpretations, Edwin F. Sabrack Jr.

Masters Theses

The lack of knowledge and understanding of the performance practice of the early eighteenth century can lead to faulty and ill-conceived ideas regarding the interpretation of Bach's flute

sonatas. Problems of tempo, articulation, phrasing, dynamics, and ornamentation can overwhelm the student approaching these works for the first time. Luckily, the great flutists of our time have

given us a permanent documentation of their interpretations of this music by committing to record their performances. A diligent study of these performances, (in this case, the Sonata in B Minor), can guide the student to make intelligent decisions for his own playing of …

A Comparative Analysis Of Selected Twentieth Century Watercolorists, Bonnie L. Ferguson Jan 1974

A Comparative Analysis Of Selected Twentieth Century Watercolorists, Bonnie L. Ferguson

Masters Theses

My objectives in writing this paper were to research selected watercolorists whose work I admire and whose work bears a relationship to my own, and to make a comparative analysis. In the process of research, I found that not all of the work of the artists I had chosen related totally to my own, but there was at least one of the basic elements that did apply. I wanted to learn from looking at their work and reading about their philosophies. That I did; and it has stimulated in me many thoughts and plans, wishes to try some of their …

This paper presents a survey of statements and the works of eight teacher-potters in Illinois. The works range from simple functional ware to funk art objects. The firing temperatures range from low fire white ware to high fire salt. The styles of the work are many; the philosophies of the work varied; and techniques of the work are diversified; but common to each work is its creation from idea to actuality by the teacher-potter. The "Illuminusion" Concept, Ray Murman Jan 1974

The "Illuminusion" Concept, Ray Murman

Masters Theses

My intention in painting and drawing is to demonstrate luminous effects in an atmospheric field.

In painting, attention is directed to various color impressions. A color may be perceived as iridescent, metallic, filmy, voluminous, hard, etc. Also, an overall tinted atmosphere establishes a misty field in which these color impressions are displayed. A systematically prepared palette of adjusted colors is then formed. The idea is a planned color effect transforming design elements.

In drawing, light and dark contrast control sets the illumination character. Various graphitic media are used to render atmospheric perspective and delineate objects in space. Impressions of texture, …
