Le but de la présente étude est d'examiner la nature du problème de l'origine des langues, tel qu'il se présentait au dix-huitième siècle. Une attention particulière est accordée, d'une part, à la Grammaire générale et raisonnée de Port-Royal, et de l'autre aux théories empiriques, ceci enfin de distinguer les facteurs qui contribuèrent à l'élaboration d'une nouvelle philosophie linguistique.

The Tudors And Their Parliaments, Mark W. Cummins

Up to the reign of the Tudors and in some respects to the Stuarts, Parliament was controlled by the King. Under the Tudors, a change came about between these two "branches" of the English government. The Parliament, especially the Commons, began to assert their authority. They began to "flex their muscles" and the crown began to lose its dominance in Parliament.

This conflict between the crown and Parliament would result in the English Civil War and the establishment of constitutional monarchy in England.

Á la recherche du temps perdu is a complex multi­ faceted novel. It spans sixteen volumes and attempts to deal with a panoply of themes and emotions, which are examined separately and finally combined to show the underlying relationship and basic unity between seemingly isolated elements. Childhood, memory, time, love, music , art, sleep, society, the historic France are major preoccupations of the narrator and occupy a major position in the book.

This study offers an explanation of the structure of Dante Gabriel Rossetti's The House of Life. It does not attempt to elevate Rossetti to a new position of pre-eminence among the Victorians or to make extravagant claims for h1s genius. What it tries to provide is a descriptive analysis or the poems taken together as a unit of meaning. No effort has been made to deal adequately with Rossetti's biography nor his output in the realm of painting. Since Socrates' attack on poetry, philosophers and critics have been faced with the problem of reconciling two convictions which seem equally pressing. While poetry (or imaginative literature) is and has been valued as a source of insight and knowledge, it also seems clear that poetic meaning is of a rather different sort than that found in science, ordinary language, or (to introduce the classical contrast) prose. Philosophical theories of poetry, then, take one of two forms: either they deny one of these two beliefs, implying perhaps that poetry has only nonsensical or literal meaning, or they provide a cognitive analysis …

To understand the origins of the Chapultepec Conference, one must study the causes of Latin American resentment toward the United States in late 1944. One highly debated theme within inter-American affairs arose from United States involvement in planning a world organization. The "Big Four" (the United States, Soviet Union, China, and Great Britain) met outside Washington, D. C., at Dumbarton Oaks beginning August 21, 1944 to formulate guidelines for an international peace-keeping body.
