The purpose of this graduate project was to write Bat Boy, a beginning novel for readers in grades three through six. The main character in the story is Ryan Basye, who takes a trip to his great grandmother's house in a small Iowa town during the Fourth of July holiday. On this holiday, the town (Holland, Iowa), has a celebration that includes a fastpitch softball tournament, games of chance, rides, lots of barbecuing and fireworks after the championship softball game. The purpose of this paper was to determine if juvenile literature portrays some characteristics of family members of male prison inmates in a realistic manner. Twenty five juvenile books were analyzed and compared to data gathered regarding characteristics of actual family members of prison inmates. This comparison revealed that juvenile literature does not portray the families of prison inmates in a realistic way.

The program for this recital consists of works by Pierre Gabaye, Robert Suderburg, Sergei Vasilenko, and Elgar Howarth. Though their respective compositions for trumpet were written in approximately the same time period, each exhibits a unique musical style in their writings for the instrument. The following paper will examine these different approaches, as well as present information pertaining to the lives of these composers.

All Our Days Are Numbered--Joumey Through Breast Cancer with Traditional and Alternative Medicine brings hope to women who must face breast cancer. In four books, Lorna Jordan shares the events leading up to her disease; her traditional breast cancer experience; her search for alternative medicine which will improve her health; and her journey into good health. Book One, "In the Beginning," presents evidence of Lorna's developing ill health. Beginning in adolescence, Lorna's exposure to mercury, antibiotics, and DDT contribute to her poor health. Hand In Hand: The story of Clinton, Iowa and the Rise of The Davis Opera House documents the parallel development of the city of Clinton, Iowa due to the lumber boom of the 1880's and the building of the first opera house of significance in the community, The Davis Opera House. Documentation from primary and secondary sources reveals a strong connection between the lumber industry and the subsequent building of The Davis. In addition to lumber, rail developments and the building of a bridge across the Mississippi River connecting Iowa and Illinois, played a secondary role in Clinton's development. The …
