If there is anything our generation of Christians needs to ponder and experience anew it is the power of God's Word. For only when we seize and are seized by the Word of God do we know the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe (Eph.1:19). And only when our faith stands in God's power do we discover what the Word of God really is (1 Cor. 2:5). Many theologians recognize the pressing necessity of speaking on this theme.

Much has been written during the last decade about the relevance of certain aspects of psychology and psychiatry to the professional role and work of ministers. When one surveys the massive literature which has been produced in this area of concern one is impressed at first by great topical variety. which ranges from theological critiques of psychological concepts and theories to pastoral counseling; from the psychological screening of candidates for the ministry to how pastors might deal with grief; from life situation preaching to techniques of supervision in clinical pastoral training courses.

John Colet, dean of St. Paul's Cathedral in London, died in 1519. Two years later Henry VIII wrote the Assertio septem sacramentorum, his polemic against Martin Luther. Although Colet's death occurred (16 Sept. 1519) 20 months before Luther's books were burned in St. Paul's Cathedral courtyard (12 May 1521), he knew of Luther and Luther's books before his end came.

Many of the ancient Stoics never experienced any serious problem concerning the existence of God because they tended to be pantheistic. The orthodox Stoic could put his hand anywhere in the universe and affirm with confidence, "Here is god.” Plato’s “highest good” and Aristotle’s “unmoved mover” are actually monotheistic proofs. Both of these men accepted the traditional gods of Greece but they were searching for a metaphysical ultimate to account for all reality. The Nevius Methods derive their name from the Rev. Dr. John L Nevius, a Presbyterian missionary to China. Nevius first arrived in Ningpo, China, as he wrote: "'My first home in China was in the city of Ningpo, in the province of Che-Kiang, which place we reached in the spring of 1854." Later (in 1861) Nevius moved to Shantung province, and he became a prominent missionary there. The Rev. Dr. Charles A. Clark called Nevius a prophet of new mission methods.
